Today we decided to check out the Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site near Collinsville, IL just a few miles north of our RV park.
The Cahokia Mounds are the largest prehistoric Indian site north of Mexico that covered about 4,000 acres and included 120 mounds. Illinois now protects 2,200 acres of the central portion of the site and 70 of the remaining 80 mounds. The first settlements at Cahokia were around AD 700 ...
