Off from the hotel at 9.00. Breakfast was short and sweet with not much to choose from. We have come to the conclusion that Quality Inn is what Comfort Inns get dropped down to when their standards start to slip or the hotel gets neglected.

Lunch supplies at Walmart as there was very little choice for shops in Harrisburg. It is not a very big place and has seen better days. However, it must service a wide local area and we were able to buy a french stick (several day's ...

We also got to watch as they made charcoal. You simply start a fire, then cover it with dirt and ...

... of both before, even climbed to the top of the arch, but today was not the day for more photos.

Tomorrow we drive to Atlanta and another Drury Hotel. They know how to make you feel good. Free cocktails, wine, beer and food in the lobby, and fresh hot pop corn all day and all evening…just go down to the lobby and help yourself. The rooms are cushy, too.

Tomorrow, we drive south to Atlanta and another Drury. ...

... the first memorial service In Illinois and one of the first in the nation to honor those who fought and died in the Civil War (1866). A General Logan gave the speech that day and later became commander of the Grand Army of the Republic. Impressed by the memorial service at Woodlawn he signed a general order setting May 30, 1868 as Memorial Day. By 1888 Memorial Day became a legal holiday in 12 northern ...
