No trip to the States is complete without a road trip, so we decided to drive from St Louis to Nashville.

We were definitely glad we did otherwise we would have missed views of the Great Plains, Rend Lake, Kentucky Dam and Metropolis, Illinois - home of Superman! The great museum is filled with Superman memorabilia and made a good stop on the way to our next stop and home of our good friend Ashley!!!

Every year I take continuing education classes for my business. This year, like last I went to Augusta GA and attended a software meeting put on by Taxslayer. This year, however we decided to drive. It takes about 15 hours. We choose to make our first night stop in Metropolis Illinois. You may associate this name with the one and only Superman. Had a nice dinner at Cracker Barrel. First time we have eaten there and I was surprised by the food and price. First time the menu had meat and choice of 3 vegetables or sides. Probably had about 3 nights worth of vegetables ...

... banks around. One farm house had its own levee bank with a small raised opening into the yard.

Headed for Harrisburg - the largest spot on the map close to where we were. There are 3 hotels/motels we could find. Now to find dinner.

Dinner at the Peking Palace where one dish was enough to feed us both. Very cheap meal $8.10. Nice to have some veggies, had Canton Pork Chop Suey.

Heading for Metropolis tomorrow. Superman, here we come.

Started the day on a tour of Carter Cave. There were enough bats flying around that we started calling Clay 'Robin'. The tour ended with seeing a waterfall in the cave. Very Cool. Next stop was Fort Boonesborough. This is the town founded by Daniel Boone. We got to see what life was like for the Kentucky pioneers in 1775. We saw a weaver, a carpenter, and a blacksmith. We also got to watch as they made charcoal. You simply start a fire, then cover it with dirt and ...
