Well! We have had a fantastic day today.
We arrived in San Diego late yesterday afternoon and checked in to a motel just a few minutes away from Sea World. Instead of just lazing around our room we decided to head to Mission Valley Mall and check out the cinemas. After Damo's recommendation, we opted to see the new James Cameron film, …
... us a fortune in cabs- and don't forget about tips! The zoo is so big! First order once everyone arrived was a zoo bus tour. This takes you all around to give you an idea of where everything is, and narrated by the lovely driver. It gave us a chance to see some of the animals that are usually hiding during the day- they know their feed times and wait for their keepers - so we got to see some grizzlies in the morning that weren't out by the time we got back - you get the drift ...
... I think the weirdest thing was seeing polar bears sitting outside in 85 degree heat eating carrots. Not sure in the weather or seeing them eating carrots was the strangest bit. Surely they should be in an indoor enclosure with the air condition turned up to full.
After the zoo we went to Sunset Cliffs as the owner of the motel had recommended it as a good place to watch the sun go down and the surfers riding the big waves. There were plenty of surfers ...

We had a hearty diner breakfast (pancake stacks with bacon and syrup - nutritious) and headed out again. We broke up the long desert drive with the Snow Cap diner in Seligman, which has been open since 1953 serving Route 66.
