... two bedroom cabin had all the amenities, idyllic setting and not another soul to be seen or heard. It even had TWO hottubs! Saturday we had a lazy morning and took off to the villages nearby. A couple of little craft shops and a wander around a homecraft festival was interrupted by a 5 minute rain shower, and we took off to sample the local vineyards 'produce', which was lovely (and free!). lunch ...

... some hiking, and lots of sleep! I drove here in a rainstorm which was the perfect entry. Again, this California girl can't get enough water from the sky. I've seen some rather large cascading falls, Minnehaha Falls I believe, but have most enjoyed hanging on the deck of the boathouse talking to ducks, swimming, and exploring the homes and boat houses of Murray Cove. I've looked at real estate fliers ...

... I still have so much food that I really didn't need to get more, but I picked up some honey buns for breakfasts and some more candy bars for snacking.

Today we're taking a nero (near zero) at the hostel. We'll be leaving probably around 10 and just going 5 miles to a shelter to recover from the longer miles we've been doing. Our trail legs are still coming in, so we're going to try to keep it around 10-12 miles for the next several days, maybe let Mooch and Seeker catch up. ...

... wet evening, it wasn't too bad out of the rain and taking to my fellow hikers.

Some of those I talked to were Smokescreen (Steve), Co-ed (Dave) and Mooch (Emily), and we decided to get a cabin at Neel Gap in two days together since they fit four people. With that plan in mind, we set out for Lance Creek campground about 7.5 miles away, about halfway to the gap. We would have gone further but there was a section of trail right after Lance Creek that you can't camp ...

... a German-themed town. Too touristy for us but Betty's General Store is a must. Walk to the back for fresh soup and sandwiches.

Two active gold mines are situated in Dahlonega and a tour is a must. Learn to pan and make some of the entrance fee back in real gold. I even bought a gold pan - just in case the opportunity arises again. One never knows...

After 4 days we headed to the town of Blue Ridge but stopped ...
