As usual, I got off to a late start from Gainesville. But, I had a lot of things to load. My trips are more like preparing for a space launch than a vacation. Look at this beautiful town. The square has the county courthouse in the middle and shops running along the four streets surrounding the building. 3 bookstores on these 4 streets. You can tell this is a university town.
Our reason for stopping in Oxford was to visit Rowan Oak, home of William Faulkner. His home is close enough to walk to the square but feels like it is out in the countryside. Lovely, serene.
... a statue out front, dominates the square--and seeing this structure, I knew both where Faulkner had found a lot of inspiration for Jefferson, county seat of Yoknapatawpha, and what Faulkner was driving at in the end of The Sound and the Fury. I was so tickled to get to see this place.
Then I finished the drive into Columbus, Mississippi. I checked into my hotel and have basically been relaxing all evening--it has felt like a very long day!
