Another 25-30 miles further east brought us to Duncan where there are a number of campgrounds around a group of lakes. At this point the map bore no relation to the roads we were offered, but we eventually found (we think), the site that we had selected from our book. It was very primitive and the "pitches" were on boggy grass right by the side of the lake where the water was very still and it was likely ...

We planned to setup camp at Doris Campground (South side of refuge) when we arrived on Friday. Little did we know that every family in Oklahoma was camping that weekend :-( We pitched our tent in the only available space we could find, but since it wasn't an "authorized" campsite, we decided to locate another area to setup camp. We heard someone say that there was an area on the northeast side of the refuge where there might be some open campsites.

The past three weeks have been full of hundreds of tasks leading up to my eventual flight to India on March 30th. Everything you can think of from closing accounts, changing addresses, selling my car, seeing friends in Tulsa, seeing family in Florida to enjoying my favorite restaurants before subjecting my body to Indian food for two years. One thing that I was indeed looking forward to was the going away party for family my parents in Oklahoma were throwing for me ...

Hi, We made it to our hotel in the city of Golden on the west side of town. The trip was easy. We ate at Chili's on the way to the hotel. Alayna noticed several people she had seen at the airport and I saw lots of Texas shirts. It's raining in Denver which hopefully means it's snowing in the mountains.

Ok, so as if I haven't been set into enough culture shock already, take me to Oklahoma! ****. I havn't been down there since last 4th of July. Man, I was exhausted all weekend, but had a blast! I was raised down there! In England they thought it was so cool how anyone who wanted to could go the lake and not even ski ...

This is a place not to miss! When driving south-west from Oklahoma City, in the middle of nowhere, we found a recommended Meers restaurant. It's located in a place of the old mine, now barely habited. What's left is a traditional style restaurant serving giant Texas Longhorn hamburgers. Although both Udo and myself are quite big eaters when it comes to burgers, these giants were really filling. After a guge burger, portion of fries and homemade ice cream, we were full for the rest of the day:P

Well, here I sit, typing away in great anticipation as to what tomorrows events will hold. I haven't been out of the country in a while, and for me it will be bliss. I have packed effeciently, and light. I am ready to take tons of pictures. I really can't wait. -Peter

The date is approximate, but after a year of dating Stephen, I finally got to make a trip with him up to Lawton to visit his parents at their home. We had a great time and I met Eliza, Stephen's niece, for the first time. I believe she was 2 or 3 years old and she was a bundle of energy. Very cute. We saw buffalo and went out to eat a lot. Stephen's parents have always been extremely kind and generous.

Well this is a mighty fine place, 20K folk and half work for Big Red, that is just bizarre! The start of my first of many trips to Duncan, so I get to stay in their little staff rooms on site, boy did I hate that, three channels and two of them run by the god squad. Christian TV - unbelievable, great salesman though "You want to live to see tomorrow - Send money today". They had a catholic boys group there ...
