Ilkley, England, United Kingdom helen-marie... decided to go inside for a little bit more of a peek but me and Noma marvelled at it from a far. I think Noma was still recovering from the viking poo!! She had a funny smile on her face for at least 4 hours!! Anyway enough of the poo!!

After a short walk around the city centre, which is full of medieval architect, we jumped back into the car for the 2 hour journey back to the caravan!

Beverley, England, United Kingdom paddyandmandy... s hospital chapel and along the old city walls to the York Art Gallery. From here we joined a free walking tour and followed an old man who knew a lot about York, just didn't know how to be a good tour guide. He was talking and walking at the same time and it was impossible to hear him, especially when he faced his back to the group!
York, England, United Kingdom jcastellan... the price certainly was right - free. I've never seen a museum where the things in their warehouse storage are in an area you can walk around in. This is my fathers favourite place and I can see why - he fits right in - older grey haired guys in funny looking shoes were all over the place. After that I headed out to try to buy a new plug adapter - I foolishly left mine in Bath. Walked around until it felt like my feet would explode but never found one (feet didn't explode either). I ...
York, United Kingdom jae... Abbey. This abbey is probably the largest one we have seen to this date, and it is in a beautiful, secluded valley. It was established in 1132 and apparently became a very powerful, trading goods throughout England and Europe. This abbey was quite large, but is now only ruins. We were fortunate to catch the end of a golden eagle demonstration & got some pictures of the bird before he was whisked off. We got to York in the early afternoon ...
York, United Kingdom drmom... my Grandad had been born. It looked close enough on the map, but my south-easterly progress was terribly slow and I got almost nowhere before nightfall. Even without all the delays earlier in the day it was probably an overly optimistic idea, so, bitterly disappointed and not sure when I’d next get the chance to go, I soon gave up and made directly for Milton Keynes, where I enjoyed some great company and a fantastic home ...
Leeds, England, United Kingdom troywilkinson... seen. That may sound like a strange combination; but, the food that results from the combination is anything but strange. I had a chicken tortalini dish that was simply incredible. And the garlic bread they served was simply heavenly. Imagine a pizza crust drenched in butter and garlic and you have some idea of what the bread was like. The really surprising thing was that the prices were rather reasonable. I can't give a restaurant a stronger recommendation than that which I give to Valencia.
Beverley, England, United Kingdom mikvs... to an otherwise austere structure.

The statue work reaches its zenith at the Percy tomb. It's right next to the main altar in the choir. Don't look at the actual grave because it's pretty plain. Instead, look at the canopy above the tomb. The only way to describe it would be a symphony in stone. The multiple arches sweep upward toward the canopy's crown, upon which sits Christ supported by angels. I feel very comfortable saying that it's the finest tomb ornamentation ...
