Day 1: we farewell Brian's Chicago apartment in the morning and head out for Ann Arbor. The drive was about 6 – 7 hours. Once we get to Ann Arbor we are nervous about getting accommodation since there was a beer fest going on that weekend. At the first exit we get off, I am told that no hotel at this exit has vacancy and that our best bet was to head to the south side of the city. We took her advice and jumped back into the car. I called my parents and touched base with a few others. I think I am going to crash ...
... customs into America. There was definitely lots of hugs and catching up. It was 3pm and we hadn't had lunch yet, so the first stop was the Big Boy restaurant near our hotel which was pretty good. It was like fast food done in an old school diner way.
We just hung out in the hotel room for the rest of the evening and went for a little drive around the neighbourhood. We weren't really in the mood for doing much else, but we are going to have a great 5 weeks together!
