... while I got to enjoy some time with Shara and Emi. Around 4:45, we left Maggie with the family and headed to the California Shakespeare Theater in Orinda, using the BART. A shuttle bus picked us up at the station, and we were at the theater around 5:30. So easy! This is an outdoor theater with a good café (and full bar-- we each had two delicious cocktails). The winner was the barkeeper Tardis's own creation (Pisces Dream?) which was based on ...

... spring rolls (we were touring with vegetarians unfortunately) - it was all quite nice, no where near as good as New Orleans, but it was still really good! - the bread was incredible! Next we collected our Alcatraz tickets from the tour guide and then headed from pier 1 to pier 33, we then went up to pier 39 as we were early and had a quick look around, before heading back to 33 to get on the boat. It wasn't a long journey and we were on 'the rock' - we ...

Stopped at Julia Pfeiffer-Burns State Park to have a look at the famous 80ft waterfall, that drops over a cliff into the Pacific Ocean (McWay Falls). Got there really early ...

10th - 13th January: San Francisco

We had an easy flight with Virgin America to San Francisco. On the subway and we made it to our hotel. Our hotel was in the best location - Union square Plaza Hotel (definitely recommend) in the middle of Union Square and all the shops! We were in desperate need of doing some laundry so we sorted that out first and foremost. We grabbed a bite to eat and ate it in Union Square. It was quite crisp in San Francisco being winter which ...

... has maintained the old fashioned style of the cars over the years. Our Alcatraz ticket was for 12.30, so we had time before that to have a quick cooked breakfast, then do the 90 minute Downtown tour. So that's what we did, except with the route tour modified because of congestion relating to Fleet week and the Italian Festival it only took an hour. Fleet week is when the navy, usually based in San Diego, comes to town. Today - Sunday - is the finale to ...
