Holy Rain Batman!

... but given the amount of rain, clouds and fog we couldn't see a thing. So we took a few pictures and pretty much drove straight through the park :(

We reached our destination fairly early tonight and decided with this storm passing over us maybe a cabin would be a little better than staying inside our "tight quarters." The cabin is pretty roomy double size bed, eating area, 1/2 bath, heater and ...

Good Cigars and Really Cheap Too

WW and I drove across western NC. Got to a town called Statesville and went into J&R Cigars, billed as the World's largest cigar store. They ain't lying. BIg ol' CHurchills for $3 (or less).

We camped at Lake Norman, land donated to the State of NC by the Duke Power company as long as the state let them leave their nuke there. No pics. Suprisingly nice campground.

Day One: Around Eastern America in 35 Days

We left Atlanta shortly before 11 am today and had a rather uneventful trip up I-85 to Charlotte. We took a short detour to Cornelius to visit my cousin Eloise Crawford. We had a good time reminiscing about church camps at Maryville College, back when we were "Northern Presbyterians." She reminded me that my brother, John, always had the job of ringing the bell in Anderson tower at dinner time and for other important events such as classes and vespers. We enjoyed our evening with Eloise.

Eden to Lincolnton NC

... interesting site and a good place to make a pit stop and photo op... We stopped for lunch at a $5.99 all-you-can-eat pizza buffet - its a real popular way of eating down here - and then we even found a place to get two good expressos - we are obviously not yet in the thick of the south - the coffee was good and Sylvain found a good way to keep the coffee warm. We kept driving down that road and ended ...

Team Member Hamilton Williams

Hi. I'm Hamilton Williams and I live in Valdese, NC with my daughter, Ella. I am a professional potter and artist with work in a number of galleries and shops across the southeastern US. I typically spend my days working in the studio at my potter's wheel or loading kilns or glazing pots, usually accompanied by my two dogs, Sydney and Louie. When I'm not working in the studio, I like to ...

Back in North Carolina to pack

... Juice was and is the dearest friend one could have - she kept my head on straight and worked every muscle to help make all this possible. I truely mean it when I say " I could not have done this without her". I will miss her like crazy and I hope she knows just how very much she means to me. So we finished up at the storage unit and then back to the house to pack the Jeep. We fit ...

Journal of the trip

February3, 2007 The trip so far. What a contrast in standard of living. Friday night I slept in high count cotton sheets w/ a silk down comforter on a bed with serious comfort mattress in Ben's house, which in itself is like an Architectural Digest article. Last night, I slept in a hard, hard bed w/ polyester sheets and foam pillows. I'll have to send pics of the accommodations for you to get the full picture. Nevertheless, I ...

Morning musings from Forest City, NC

... emissions during your daily or twice daily walks, this might not be so awkward, but to me, the less handling time the better. Now, since I didn't put the garbage bag into the Ziploc bag before I started, I don't know how that will affect my next experience differently. I'll have to get back to you on that... The other thing I noticed is that the system is designed for a deeper well than a travel trailer toilet, so it's crowded in the bowl, what with the ...
