Enjoyed watching the marmalade cats wandering through the hotel gardens...the breakfast buffet was typical Florida! Bacon, eggs, hashbrowns, cereal, apples, toast - and grits and sugar covered donuts! I wonder what breakfast will be like tomorrow?
The hotel breakfast buffet was adequate, and the Styrofoam cup of …
Yes, it is WHO you know...a friend of Trudi's works for Air Canada and so we were upgraded to Business Class! China dishes, metal cutlery, wine, legroom...and the only other couple in the section were from our town! Lots of fun chatting with them, and the service was simply stellar. Good thing they kept that curtain closed to separate us from the …
We have arrived, after an "uneventful" day of air travel filled with the usual barage of inconveniences: leaving the house before dawn, getting split up in re-assigned seats, and dealing with all little rudenesses along the way. If I could figure out how to pin a converging line on the map, it would show Mom and Dad's crazy frequent flyer itinerary …
... but this was our only day in Florida, so we went out anyway. We saw Los Olas Boulevard (shopping) and the rather luxurious Galleria shopping centre (more shopping). We then walked along the beach for a couple of miles, and stopped at Casablanca for dinner. Pretty good, but not terribly Moroccan. The humous tasted like ground chick peas, unadulterated by flavour. Oh, but it was great, and who cares about the food - we sat just steps from the Atlantic ...
... 2 with American Airlines. I asked Rosalind to get her phone out so we could take a couple of pictures for the blog. She reached in her purse and first pulled out the remote control to our TV in the bedroom. I looked at her and said, "Rosalind my dear, I didn’t think we needed to bring our remote to watch TV on the ship; I’m sure they will have one for us." But you know what that little move tells me; she watches too much TV! But isn’t ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Ramada Airport-Cruise Port Fort Lauderdale
This property seems to get a huge range of reviews. We liked it fine for a one-night stay before our cruise. Shuttle from the airport was efficient and prompt. Check-in was reasonably quick and friendly and we were lucky to have a room that was ready. Our room was clean and well appointed - room safe, iron/board, hair dryer, nice TV. Beds were fairly comfortable and oh yeah, the A/C worked great!!!
Stay away young Luke!
Ok. I am going to make this simple for you. There are two words that will give you a warning that you could benefit from: 1. DUMP 2. GHETTO.
You can thank me later. Spend the extra money and book a decent, clean room elsewhere.
This place should be more accurately called the Ramada Ashtray/Crapper! Now that the invectives are used up...I am taking the time to write this to warn people planning trips out of a sincere wish to prevent the mistake we made! This is NOT a nice place!!! It is located under an off-ramp and that is the most appealing view this shack offers. The place is set up like a motel, in that the room doors are located on the outside of the building. When we walked to our room we noticed that the room number was on printer paper and taped to the door(no joke). The room itself smelled like an ashtray and was wholly sub-par. The pool and bar etc. looked more like a miniature golf course than a relaxing get-away...was dirty and overrun. We checked out after an hour of searching for another place to stay. More than the dirtiness the place gave an unsettling feeling of being unsafe, unkept and most certainly unrelaxing! Please heed the words of this warning...you get what you pay for...and its worth paying more!!!
The drive was so long from our home and we were completely exhausted. We were there early and the front desk gentleman was verry polite and helped us check in earlier so we could relax. We were very impressed how everything was so conveinent for our cruising vacation. We were able to have drinks and lunch out by the pool and we were able to leave our car here instead of paying $12 a day at the port (crazy!!!). The hotel even picked us up after our cruies was over so we could drive back home. The cruise was amazing and the hotel stay made everything run smoothly before our vacation in the sun. My husband and I were very pleased with the service and complimentary shuttle and breakfast.
The staff at this hotel were very friendly and the rooms were certainly clean. There were some problems with the "free shuttle" but at least it was free. In each of the four rooms at the hotel we saw, there was something wrong. One showerhead did not have full water pressure. The safe did not work in another room. The water did not drain properly after a shower in another. There was extensive rust showing in one of the "fully rennovated rooms". It looked like they had really cut corners in making the rennovation.
I actaually rate this hotel between okay and average. There was a lengthy wait for the airport shuttle so that when we all arrived at the hotel there was then a lengthy wait to check in. Not nice after a long flight.
After reading the reviews I chose this hotel for a 1-night stay. We took a bus up from Key West and stayed here for its proximity to the airport and its free shuttle service for an early flight home. One thing I should have realized is if you stay near an airport you will be subjected to its noise. Instead of counting sheep to fall asleep you can count the planes screaming by, only you won't be falling asleep, unless you spent enough time on an aircraft carrier then you might feel right at home. The hotel itself is nice and has a nice pool area. But I can't imagine it being a very relaxing place with all the airport traffic taking off overhead. We ate at the hotel's restaurant, Toucans, for dinner. I don't know what other people had but the seafood is lousy and the vegetables have no taste - they are steamed into oblivion. Didn't see any other places to eat nearby either. Do yourself a favor and find another place for your last night in beautiful Fort Lauderdale.
Check in was easy, they picked us up at the airport and dropped us off at the cruiseship without any delay for free. The room was nice with a big TV and free HBO channels. Very clean, no bugs at all. Though the hotel is not new, it seems to be recently refurbished. The free breakfast and lunch and dinner were great. And the bartender, Manny and the front desk girl, Leda, were very friendly and helpful. For the price, it couldn't have been much better. I don't understand some of the negative reviews I read about this place. Maybe people are confusing this hotel with another. We enjoyed the Ramada SR 84.
What a nice surprise! So close to everything, but like an island in itself...the free breakfast buffet was a treat, the rooms comfortable and pleasant, and the courtyard a mini paradise! The free shuttle to the port made our cruise a snap. Would definitely go back.
