And the Waves Rode Like Stallions

... But the views were lovely as were the homes and boats we saw. Palm Beach has some of the largest and most opulent homes and yachts we have seen thus far. Right now we are staying at an excellent marina. It is extremely clean, well managed with excellent help, floating docks, a restaurant, gym, laundry, transportation and one of the better stocked marine stores around in terms of snacks, ice cream, wine and liquor as opposed to mechanical supplies. They presented us with a bottle ...

Miami

... on the roads in the USA a days driving hasn't go by where I haven't see a car accident). I found Laura living in a lovely gated community on the western side of Miami. Very pretty suburb with all the conveniences you would need. We went to dinner at a very swanky Japanese restaurant just up the road from her place, not the normal suburban fare or atmosphere you would cop in Australian suburbs. Over dinner she convinced me that I should go to ...

Miami in the heat

... The clam chowder was very nice and we were glad we had asked for a cup of it rather than a bowl as the portion was large. I had fish and chips which was very nice but again too much. Stefan had a shrimp linguine which was fine but again too much. What we did eat was washed down with a bottle of wine and we ended up paying $100 dollars for the meal which includes the atrocious 15% service charge and 9% tax. After lunch we did ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Ramada Airport-Cruise Port Fort Lauderdale

Good for pre or post cruise!

    from

This property seems to get a huge range of reviews. We liked it fine for a one-night stay before our cruise. Shuttle from the airport was efficient and prompt. Check-in was reasonably quick and friendly and we were lucky to have a room that was ready. Our room was clean and well appointed - room safe, iron/board, hair dryer, nice TV. Beds were fairly comfortable and oh yeah, the A/C worked great!!!

    Stay away young Luke!

Ok. I am going to make this simple for you. There are two words that will give you a warning that you could benefit from: 1. DUMP 2. GHETTO.

You can thank me later. Spend the extra money and book a decent, clean room elsewhere.

    D-U-M-P!!!

    from

This place should be more accurately called the Ramada Ashtray/Crapper! Now that the invectives are used up...I am taking the time to write this to warn people planning trips out of a sincere wish to prevent the mistake we made! This is NOT a nice place!!! It is located under an off-ramp and that is the most appealing view this shack offers. The place is set up like a motel, in that the room doors are located on the outside of the building. When we walked to our room we noticed that the room number was on printer paper and taped to the door(no joke). The room itself smelled like an ashtray and was wholly sub-par. The pool and bar etc. looked more like a miniature golf course than a relaxing get-away...was dirty and overrun. We checked out after an hour of searching for another place to stay. More than the dirtiness the place gave an unsettling feeling of being unsafe, unkept and most certainly unrelaxing! Please heed the words of this warning...you get what you pay for...and its worth paying more!!!

    Great vacation!

    from

The drive was so long from our home and we were completely exhausted. We were there early and the front desk gentleman was verry polite and helped us check in earlier so we could relax. We were very impressed how everything was so conveinent for our cruising vacation. We were able to have drinks and lunch out by the pool and we were able to leave our car here instead of paying $12 a day at the port (crazy!!!). The hotel even picked us up after our cruies was over so we could drive back home. The cruise was amazing and the hotel stay made everything run smoothly before our vacation in the sun. My husband and I were very pleased with the service and complimentary shuttle and breakfast.

Tired property but a good price

    from

The staff at this hotel were very friendly and the rooms were certainly clean. There were some problems with the "free shuttle" but at least it was free. In each of the four rooms at the hotel we saw, there was something wrong. One showerhead did not have full water pressure. The safe did not work in another room. The water did not drain properly after a shower in another. There was extensive rust showing in one of the "fully rennovated rooms". It looked like they had really cut corners in making the rennovation.

    Ehhhhhh.....

    The Good and The Bad:

Okay for a pre cruise stay

    from

I actaually rate this hotel between okay and average. There was a lengthy wait for the airport shuttle so that when we all arrived at the hotel there was then a lengthy wait to check in. Not nice after a long flight.

    Close to airport...as its noise

    from

After reading the reviews I chose this hotel for a 1-night stay. We took a bus up from Key West and stayed here for its proximity to the airport and its free shuttle service for an early flight home. One thing I should have realized is if you stay near an airport you will be subjected to its noise. Instead of counting sheep to fall asleep you can count the planes screaming by, only you won't be falling asleep, unless you spent enough time on an aircraft carrier then you might feel right at home. The hotel itself is nice and has a nice pool area. But I can't imagine it being a very relaxing place with all the airport traffic taking off overhead. We ate at the hotel's restaurant, Toucans, for dinner. I don't know what other people had but the seafood is lousy and the vegetables have no taste - they are steamed into oblivion. Didn't see any other places to eat nearby either. Do yourself a favor and find another place for your last night in beautiful Fort Lauderdale.

    Outstanding experience

    from

Check in was easy, they picked us up at the airport and dropped us off at the cruiseship without any delay for free. The room was nice with a big TV and free HBO channels. Very clean, no bugs at all. Though the hotel is not new, it seems to be recently refurbished. The free breakfast and lunch and dinner were great. And the bartender, Manny and the front desk girl, Leda, were very friendly and helpful. For the price, it couldn't have been much better. I don't understand some of the negative reviews I read about this place. Maybe people are confusing this hotel with another. We enjoyed the Ramada SR 84.

    Hidden charm

    from

What a nice surprise! So close to everything, but like an island in itself...the free breakfast buffet was a treat, the rooms comfortable and pleasant, and the courtyard a mini paradise! The free shuttle to the port made our cruise a snap. Would definitely go back.
