... pulled together and managed to work out the camper’s special quirks and find ways to deal with them. We also had the joy of dealing with 12 year old stubbornness and *****iness, young crushes and sometimes heart breaking stories about home. I think this encampment provided a great experience for both counselors and campers to understand other people’s differences.
Now off to NYC for a well deserved encampment break! ...
After a great night's sleep - 12 hours in all - we woke to a lovely sunny day at close to midday. We we for a short walk over to Aunt Rita's place, saw squirrels and had breakfast, or lunch, and then went for a walk down to the Hudson River.
The weather was unseasonably warm - about 16 degrees c - but felt warmer. Not sure why we needed to bring those thermals!

Not only was today the day that we left Wal-Mart, it was also, finally, after months of build-up, the day of the 2008 Presidential Election. Whilst having breakfast & packing up we had been listening to the radio reports of long queues at the polling stations all across the States and so we were quite excited & eager to get on the road so that we might see some of it for ourselves.
