Sand, waves and fresh water ?

... around St Joseph township and taking the smaller roads home. Bought some Halloween pumpkins for Madge's front steps from Sid's Pumpkin patch. We also stopped at Niles to see an old station which has been used in a number of films including Only the Lonely, Continental Divide and Midnight Run.

Went to dinner at Madge's favourite Chinese restaurant, Mandarin House, where we had a lovely meal of beef Chow Mien, Moo Chu Pork and Szchezwan Chicken with peanuts.

Buggies and Quilts

... was an area that was obviously where the tourists went to take buggy rides and browse the shops. It reminded me of Montville on a weekend but in American Amish country. It was interesting to see the horses and buggies going along the road shoulder and cars on the road. We saw so many horses and buggies in a small area in such a short period of time and it was not put on for the tourists. That was just how I wanted to see their community.

... it but looked quite lovely with the autumn leaves on the canyon floor. Walked to the Lodge and Hotel which is a big place. It looks to be a similar set up to O'Reilly's at the Lamington Plateau but on a much bigger scale. Walked back along part of the St Louis Canyon walk which was so poorly maintained and marked that others before us had bush bashed their way through the long grass and over boggy areas. ... is large and most sites are in nicely treed areas. There are a few campers but again we have it mostly to ourselves. We took a short walk around the campground then down to the lake. There was one particularly nice viewing area that allowed us to see an amazing variety of birds and waterfowl. Geese giant White Egrets and Blue Herons were our favourite. After that we settled in for the evening. We'd like to be in Wisconsin tomorrow ...

... some of church and afterward met some people who were excited to be moving to Snowflake, Arizona. This was their last week in Lake Villa, IL and they seemed like they couldn’t be happier. They were excited about moving away from the winters - 50" of snow last year made their decision easier.
