Chicago or bust, let's get the show on the road

      The start of our trip.

Departure from Huntsville toward Chicago. Got an all day lay over in Chicago because there is only one flght to Chicago from Huntsville.
All went well other than the American Airlines agent had to physically complete the baggage connection between Paris and Malta. This meant that he had to hand write the ultimate destination. I don' think he has ever heard of Malta.

The Deep South - Huntsville Alabama

... up in the hills of Huntsville. The kids had a great time and so did we! The rest of the public was at church so it was almost all to ourselves. Sundays are very interesting in Huntsville, the church communities are massive and they even set up road blocks and police direct traffic so people can get to church in a somewhat orderly fashion. You can see a church on just about every corner and Kym and Paul told us that it is expected that you "donate" 10% of your salary to your ...

We had our final information overload of Space history (today was about the shuttle program) & then got to see how much of this info we'd retained with a Jeopardy type game called 'Space Bowl' ...

... of a break from the kids while they did a secret mission & we were left to design our mission patch. Everyone pretty much sat there & it took a lot for me avoid going into full teacher mode. In the end, of course, the girls did the work while the boys talked shop. So with my less than stellar artistic skills I put the ideas together & one of the other 'moms' did all of the actual artistic shading & coloring. After an early Mexican themed lunch we did training for our ...

... been before dinner?! Then did our first mission with the Space Shuttle Endeavour. Thought I was going to be leaving Space camp on my own as we were starting re-entry while Jase & Jordan were still hanging outside on a space walk. NASA will not be hiring any of us any time soon. The big kids & little kids looked exhausted so it was showers & bedtime by 9:30pm - us astronauts are mega party ...
