... for Roger to have his little friend Doug to watch the Olympics with, especially hockey. It was funny because Doug's a big hockey fan, but he was so quiet watching the hockey games that we wondered if he was asleep, while Roger was yacking and yelling and slapping his knee when they almost scored. ... things to do in Yuma. The #2 thing was the Castle Dome Mining and Ghost Town......sounds interesting. After going in 180* he wrong direction for a while we finally found the sign 40 miles north of Yuma. Ten more miles on the worst (I say again) worst , roughest, gravel road I have ever driven we arrrived to the so-called ghost town. Actually it may have been a mining area with some pits that extracted silver ore back in the 1800's but the ghost town was just someone's dream ...
... this doesn't work well for me and some of it we saw is really just junk. Would be neat to see when they are all set up with hundreds of vendors and full RV parks.
The afternoon after our little tour of town and some shopping we had a coyote stroll through the RV park-- that was interesting. And, we had seen a roadrunner at the cemetery. Yes, all things considered we really felt comfortable in Quartzsite. Need to return for sure.
... the way home from the dunes, we stopped to watch workers harvesting a romaine lettuce field. They cut out the romaine hearts, put three in a cello bag, pack them in cartons, and then put the cartons into a truck. The outside leaves are left to rot in the field. The lettuce reaches east coast markets in two days. As we were watching them, the workers tossed us three bags of lettuce (nine hearts). When we were back at the resort, we gave most of it to our friends ...
... and towed the basket across the road to a spot where the balloon could be UN-inflated and rolled up... during this 10-15 minute segment we had traffic stopped on the road, and we had drivers standing outside their vehicles looking up and watching....
