This hotel was booked as part of a package from White Star Tours. The hotel was not ready when we arrived (approximately 3:30 pm). There were not enough table and chairs for our group at dinner time.. people were left standing with no where to dine. We had the same problem the following morning with breakfast...not enough room, not enough plates, cups, not enough chairs and no coffee until about 30 minutes after the food was brought in. The first morning the breakfast was delicious with choices of fruit among other items. The rest of the mornings there was no choice and if you arrived 5 minutes after opening time there was no food and usually no coffee. The pool was closed for the entire 5 days we were there. Forget free newspapers.....they didn't even have enough to purchase one at 7:30 in the morning! The rooms were not clean and the air conditioning was not very effective. FIND ANOTHER PLACE TO STAY!
Thank you for your comments. You indicated that your stay was in May 2007, yet the comments, provided 2 months later, make it very difficult to rectify any perception of inadequate service that you had of your visit. As with any product or service, it is most beneficial to call attention to it immediately.
Having said that, your White Star group was scheduled to arrive between 7-8 p.m., and that was the time that we were expecting you, along with 2 other large tour groups. The unannounced change of plan and early arrival by your group leader caused some logistical delay, but my understanding is that all of your rooms were ready within one-half hour of arrival.
The meal schedules for our many tour groups are determined by White Star and then, we hope, communicated by the leader to the group. During your visit we had 3 tour groups with over 100 people. More than adequate seating space was reserved; however, experience shows that groups do not commingle and that many times 2 or 3 people from a group take a table, and folks from other groups do not then sit with them. We encourage the groups to mix, but cannot control where people decide to sit. As for the buffet, the hours of operation are 6:30 to 9 a.m.,with food being continually replenished. I am sorry that you feel that you did not find enough to eat.
The pool was closed for 2 days during your stay, when a guest had an accident and we had to close, clean, drain, refill, and sanitize for the safety of all guests and staff. We tried to do this with minimal inconvenience for all, with an eye to getting the pool open as quickly as possible.
Our housekeeping staff and supervisors constantly inspect our rooms, and are graded on those inspections both internally and by our brand affiliation. To date we have not failed an inspection, but I am sorry that you found your room "not clean." I would urge you in the future to immediately alert management to any condition so that steps may be taken to investigate and rectify promptly.

I need to write this review to vent so my head doesn't explode i'm SO
mad. my husband and i had a wedding to go to this saturday so we decided to stay at the place all our friends were staying at. well first, even though the bride and groom put holds on 10 rooms and they
were filled, and we were staying because of the wedding, they wouldnt
give us any discount. fine, whatever. they said it was to be 129 instead of the 92 everyone else was charged that was staying for the wedding.
we get into our room with 45 minutes before the tram leaves to take us to the reception and so i'm rushing to get ready. so im doing my makeup and the lightbulb is burnt out so i walk on the other side of the bed and theres vomit all over! i have my husband go to the front desk (our room was the first room by the front desk) to get somebody and it takes 20 minutes. so we get switched to another room. i have 10 minutes to get ready.
we get 2 free drink vouchers for the "mishap"... being they DIDN"T CLEAN our room.... and they argue at the bar that they arent good on saturdays. then when my husband wants a rum and coke he cant get one cause its not included. so we get pop.
the people we stayed with from the wedding couldn't get in their room
cause the chain lock was locked. they contacted the maid and instead of apologizing she swore and got them a new room. our others friends had crap on the wall in their bathroom! and the toilet for the bride and groom overflowed on them!
i s/w richard ... the manager and he was SO RUDE! he was snippy and snotty and acted like this was all our fault! at one point in our conversation he actually said that we had stayed in 2 rooms then since they switched us to another room since the first one had vomit on the floor! i was shocked! this is their manager!
DO NOT STAY HERE! this place is DIRTY! management is RUDE! oh and i also overheard walking by a mother of the bride that was having their
wedding there that saturday that she wanted family style not buffet style and they confused that on her!
On behalf of the staff and management I apologize for the unpleasant condition of your room. My understanding is that a substance was on the floor behind the curtain of your room, and was discovered by you some time after your check-in at 4:56 p.m. Our records indicate that your room was changed at 5:15 p.m., immediately after we became aware of your concern. Both the housekeeper, and housekeeping supervisor, have been counseled about the need to thoroughly clean and inspect all areas of our guestrooms. Fortunately, this is a rare circumstance, but a nonetheless unpleasant one for the guest.
By way of explanation, and not excuse, a new bartender who was unfamiliar with our drink vouchers was working that evening. The bartender is now fully aware of our guidelines, though from your correspondence it appears that you did receive 2 complimentary beverages.
Our guests know Richard, our General Manager, to be professional, courteous, and to always act in their best interests. I am sorry that your perception of the conversation you had with him was otherwise.
We work very hard everyday to provide a good experience for our guests, and it is unfortunate when a problem occurs. However, as in your case, we move as quickly as we can to correct the problem once it is brought to our attention.
Friendly Folks in Chicago
The hotel needs a little updating but when you have staff that are ready to make sure everything is perfect, you can't find a better hotel. The owner, the staff behind the counter, and even the cleaning crew had a positive attitude and were ready to help with any needs. They provided shuttles to a training class each day, they provided a shuttle to the train, they suggested great restaurants and places to visit, they really made me feel at home while away for a week of training. The rooms, swimming area and hot tub were clean and comfortable. The morning breakfasts were better than average. A convenient lounge was also inviting. I would recommend this place for a conveniently located great buy in the Chicago area.
Great Stay for Conference
I spent an overnight for a Women's Conference. The room was nice and the staff friendly and accomodating. Extra pillows etc. The meeting rooms were appealing to the eye and the service at meals was great. Food was prepared and presented wonderfully and not too large of a portion. Some surprise features such as steak tartare and petit fours. Salads had a nice mix of greens and good choice of dressings. Beverages were served in pitchures and refilled as needed.
I don't know what happened to the woman who posted the previous review as she had me concerned, but what she wrote is not at all what we experienced.
Terrible, terrible, terrible
This was one of the worst hotels I've stayed at. It was a two night stay on business and I checked out after the first night. The hotel is very tired and run down looking and the whole place has this mold or mildew smell. Never again.
"Nice young lady at the front desk"
I stayed at this hotel for the first time last weekend and I was quite pleased with the service the young lady at the front desk provided me....I think her name might have been Charleen?...She was very helpful and when she didn't know the answer to one of my questions she was more than willing to get her supervisor Dan to help. And he was a very friendly man who helped me to the best of his ability. The rooms were fairly clean and the restaurant staff was also very nice and friendly. The hotel is located in a suburb of chicago and in a quiet neighborhood. Overall the service was excellent and the rooms were spacious and clean. I would definately stay here again.
Poor Conditions, Overcharged, Rude Management
We reserved two rooms for a family wedding. The rooms were marginal, cleaning and maintenance appear to be low priorities.
A month after our stay we were charged for an extra night. After four calls to the hotel we were told that we had reserved an extra room and that we had not cancelled it. We actually reserved two rooms and used two, yet they insist we reserved three rooms.
We checked in and got the keys for two rooms, yet no one informed us that their records were showing a third room reserved for us.
This morning I spoke with Richard Barton who is the General Manager. I explaind the situation and asked him to reverse the charge. He was quite rude and told me that it was my fault for not cancelling the room. I explained again that I had not reserved a third room and asked why when checking in the error was not caught. He refused to reverse the charge.
I informed him that I would take the necessary steps to have his decision changed, incliuding small claims court.
We will NEVER stay at this property again and will tell as many people as possible about our experience. If you must use this hotel - Watch your Charges!!!!
Our school reunion was held here in September. I had read some of the other reviews and was quite pleased to find them more than a little inaccurate. I've stayed in many hotels because of my job and found this one to be everything a hotel should be. I was particularly pleased that they use fitted sheets on their beds. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
Terrible Visit to the Oaks
I booked a stay at the Oaks a hotel associated with a nearby reception hall the night of my wedding. Not only did I book a room 30 people in my reception booked rooms as well. Of course i had the sweet when i walked into my room a part of the ceiling had fallen in the bathroom and left a mess room service never even even came to clean it up. As I walked into the hotel the manager gave me "my first and only warning " and proceeded to call the police ensuring that no one had fun the night of my wedding poor managment all around.
Avoid this Hotel at all costs.
I will never stay at this hotel again. When I arrived at my room there was broken glass all over the floor outside my door. The TV stations came it with lots of static. The handles on our dresser drawers were broken. There is absolutely no water pressure in the shower. They booked our room wrong, two beds instead of one. And the whole hotel smells musty.
