        PCT day 26. Miles 451.6-474.6

Friday, May 15, 2015. PCT day 26. Miles 451.6-474.6 After heavy rainfall most of the night, I awoke to a calm cloudy morning with the smell of damp earth. Perhaps I am biased knowing how dire this four year drought has been for CA, but I can just feel the local flora and fauna breath a sigh of relief. I did not eat breakfast at camp because I had plans to break my fast at Agua Dulce, the next town that the trail intersects. Leaving camp by 0700, I hiked the next three miles ...

We have just arrived back in California after 2 days in Vegas. The show we went to was pretty awesome! We had a nice dinner at the planet Hollywood dailies restaurant and I got to check out the Britney store! It was so cool but super expensive. After the show we completed the Vegas experience by driving back along the strip to our hotel in an SUV. By this point I was knackered. It was a miracle I did not yell at anyone. We got up super early to check out of the hotel at ...

Around then, we take off for the heat of the day; we start up again around 4pm and hike until we find water or a sweet campsite. Today was one of those sweet campsite days. I'll post some more pics when I get better signal.

Today I met an awesome hiker. He was at least 70 years old. He was a slightly hunched, white bearded old man. He went by the name Santa's Helper! He had a heart attack ...

... Museum of Art next door. Pretty impressive museum overall. We were allowed to take pictures with no flash, but decided not to. Taking a picture of a Monet to view on screen is like watching an action movie on an iphone. It cheapens the experience.

We did walk by the La Brea tar pits, which is right next to the museum. I found that ...

This morning I snoozed and didn't get up until 8:00. I grabbed just a banana so I could be ready for a task right away. Everyone was still so silent! Then Thomas and I got a calm, stern talking-to for staying up talking past 10:30 last night. Then I spent three whole hours making small, round planters out of newspaper. This takes several steps. I pasted the bottom ends of the tubes closed. It felt like punishment but it probably wasn’t, maybe just old-fashioned ...
