... with an 80 year old man that day hiked from the bottom as well. A nice pleasant man he was, that had the smile that gave you the sense that he has lived a good life, with no regrets and full of content. He made me smile too and made me aspire to reach 80 someday and to still hike in the mountains just like him. The trail meandered down to the water source at mile 563, a piped spring that had a trickle that filled a liter of water in 3 minutes. I met a 50 something ...

... Museum of Art next door. Pretty impressive museum overall. We were allowed to take pictures with no flash, but decided not to. Taking a picture of a Monet to view on screen is like watching an action movie on an iphone. It cheapens the experience.

We did walk by the La Brea tar pits, which is right next to the museum. I found that ...

This morning I snoozed and didn't get up until 8:00. I grabbed just a banana so I could be ready for a task right away. Everyone was still so silent! Then Thomas and I got a calm, stern talking-to for staying up talking past 10:30 last night. Then I spent three whole hours making small, round planters out of newspaper. This takes several steps. I pasted the bottom ends of the tubes closed. It felt like punishment but it probably wasn’t, maybe just old-fashioned ...
