... to the beach, only 3 houses away. People were fishing, swimming, having a great time. It was a beautiful afternoon. Back to their house for cocktails and dinner.
Tues Sept 17--We had planned to spend the day at the beach but it was cloudy, windy, and cold. Rick drove us around the island to see some of the damage caused by Super Storm Sandy.
I got up and jumped on an easy 90 minute train to Atlantic City. It took me a while to remember the last train I caught. I thought it was the overnighter in Vietnam for a while but it's actually the one I took from Sydney to the Blue Mountains. Not that it matters, train technology hasn't moved on in the last few months. Atlantic City with Susy and family. Left early and drive 2 hours. Had lunch at a burger place while the family had Panda Express. Lay by the beach for a while. Had a quick swim. Played kick the ball with the kids. Walked along the boardwalk. Had funnel cake. Waaay too sugary! Had pizza slice and chicken parma with pasta and salad and baked potatoes. Drove back around 8. Had ice cream sandwich on the way ...
... The hike was enjoyable and very easy-going. Luke seemed to manage the hike with ease, running most of the time, sweating and drinking obsessively out of his Camelback. We did realize the importance of getting hiking shoes for Luke, as he wore his sandals and stopped every two minutes to get sand or rocks out of them. Add this to the list.
All and all, a great little hike!

Field Test - Awaiting results
There may be other items that I'll add to the list as we prepare for the trip, but these are the main ones I'm interested in testing as we'll use them most often. This is the first time I've prepared a list like this for my personal use, and I'm excited to see if it actually provides any insight into what makes for a comfortable and rewarding camping trip.
