Wynne here: Time to begin our journey to New Zealand, so as a symbolic gesture for this big change (latitudes, attitudes, seasons...) it was time to cut Mark's hair for donation. Naw, really, he couldn't wait to get it cut. I get to say goodbye to Mr. Scruffy, and say hello to the 29-yr old guy I married! Wait till you see what he looks like now!
As much as I've been looking ...
... garage behind some businesses on Highway 89A, the main drag. The view from the garage, the GARAGE, was gorgeous. You can't get a bad view in this town.
It makes me hurt to see houses built on scarlet cliff ledges, restaurants on the banks of Oak Creek, fast food junksters below wind swept rock pillars.
You can't duplicate this setting. There's only one.
It should've been a national park. No place on earth deserves it more.
We got up early in Phoenix to get
away asap, headed off to Flagstaff. Stopped at Montezuma National Park,
went on a mini hike to see a castle embedded in the hillside, was
pretty strange knowing people had managed to live there a long time
ago! 2.5 hrs to Flagstaff, not too long and found the hostel. Very cute
hostel just as they should be, wooden floors etc, very fitting for a
town in the middle of nowhere. It is 7000ft above sea level and cold,
but the ...
... the movie. We also drove through the town that was in the movie. Complete with the motel where cars stayed in cones, except they were tipis. There were a bunch of old cars sitting around the place, including an old hudson that had Doc written on the license plate. If you haven't seen cars I apologize. You probably don't get what I'm babling on about.
So, we had a pretty fun filled day!
... gone on a trail with not enough water or food, and didn't realise the length of the trail and got lost and because of this died in the Canyon in 2004. This kind of thing really makes you think! Anyway we started the trail and were hiking down to the first rest house out of 3, when believe it or not, just like Yosemite, Corinne started to complain about her sore feet and the heat and so on and so on! (lol). To be fair she had ...
Flagstaff, Arizona, United States corinneandluke... down to the bottom. One day. I had a great time just hanging out on the rim. I went to the southern rim vs the northern. I hung around for the sunset/moon rising. It was the most amazing moon rising I have ever seen. I drove to Flagstaff to the hostel. There are lots of people around. I am sitting in the common room talking with a bunch of ...
Flagstaff, Arizona, United States beesandtrees... been worried about their summer occupancy rates because of the cost of fuel. He said they had been less than 50% full through mid-May. Then it began picking up with people from the south. He told me that most everyone who can leave southern AZ in the summer does, and they leave the State for cooler areas. Well, it seems that this year a great deal of them are heading no further than northern AZ, and that's sasving this RV park's bottom line. He says that ...
Flagstaff, Arizona, United States wbcci1529... The canyon is so large that no matter how far you drive, it never seems to change. Still, a slightly different angle can uncover a formation you didn't notice before, or cause a shift in the color of the rocks when the sun strikes them at a slightly different angle. It's an amazing place. We thought about driving over to the north rim, but by then it was late in the afternoon and we decided to leave it for the next time we were out this way.
Flagstaff, Arizona, United States davecs... said to me: "40-something dollars please". I know I made a really weird face at that moment. "I already paid for my stay at this hostel with a credit card (Hewitts`es)..." Then I found out that thaere was taken only a small deposit from the credid card, just like Darrel was saying. I gave them the whole amount back because I thought that`s how much was taken from the card. Oh well, I regret it since they had done so much for me. But I got sweaty anyway. It`s a ...
Flagstaff, Arizona, United States bogna... drinking girls turned cartwheels because the Chicago Cubs won a baseball game. My grandma and I loved visiting a karaoke bar, where nice people from all over the country sang funny songs, sang good songs, dressed in costumes, and made jokes. I left Vegas and my grandparents the next morning. Continuing on towards my brother, I came upon Zion National Park in southern Utah. Trails, forest, streams, and peaceful lawn decorated the floor of the park. A fat, cartoon-cuddly ...
