Phoenix to Bullhead City/Laughlin, NV
My BFF Lorraine Pino and I left Phoenix at about 4:30pm; about an hour later than what we wanted too. However, both of us were very excited to hit the road to who knows what! Our first stop was in Surprise for lunch at Chick-fil-a. Our goal was to eat only kids meals along the way, however we broke our rules in Surprise. We both had chicken …
Rockets over the River
Rockets over the River
July 4th, 2009
My wife and I decided to spend our 2009 July 4th holiday in Laughlin, NV. I found some information on the net about the firework show "Rockets over the River" hosted by the Laughlin Tourism Commission and launched by High Desert Pyrotechnics. So we headed out on Thursday the …
Oh-Oh...a Boo-Boo
... The next day we went to the Golden Nugget for lunch at Joe's Crab Shack. It was yummy, and was a nice finale after cutting our trip short.
Surprisingly, Ross was quite impressed with my driving our 36-foot RV while towing our Jeep. The only problem was he kept counting the times my right tires went ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Tropicana Express Laughlin
Loved the Ramada Express
We have been going to Laughlin about once every year for the past several years in my in-laws moved to Bullhead City. We love it at the Ramada. Everyone who works there is always so friendly and helpful. The rooms are always clean and inviting and we just love gambling in their casino. No matter when we arrive (the last time was we arrived at midnight) I always get the refrigerator that I need for my diabetic supplies, orange juice, etc. within 10 minutes of entering our room after checking in. The hallways are always very quiet and we are never disturbed by any outside noise. My only complaint would be that the valet service is rather slow, but the valet people are always very friendly. We've played bingo at the Riverside and the River Palms and have gambled there between bingo sessions and never win a thing in their casinos. but we always seem to win something at the Ramada. The Ramanda casino. We are often asked by relatives who have stayed elsewhere why we keep staying at the same place all the time but we like it so much there that we would think of staying anywhere else and chance a bad experience. I would recommend the Ramada Express highly.
Loveda the Ramada Express
I had a wonderful time in Laughlin. It was very hot. I stayed at the Flamingo Hilton, same as last year..no major changes..very little winnings..but, sort of accidentaly bumped up on an excellent band at the Ramada Express. they were from CAlifornia, the group was called "4 of a kind". The Atmosphere at the Ramada Express was very nice.!! Friendly personnel that worked there. I really loved it..Very clean, Food great, and, was even allowed to take my 35 MMCamera as well as Camcorder inside with the assistance of security, (briefly). It was very up-beat!! I will stay there..when I return, because of their hospitality, and, the atmosphere...(very enjoyable)!!..of course, there isn't a lot to do in Laughlin, but, I like being there..and, will go again.
Good Price- Basic Room
I had No probelms with the Ramada Express- The casino service was great, the resturant did take a while. The room was very basic and cheap ($25.00). It was exactly what I expected. I have stayed at other hotels in Laughlin, there really isn't a four star hotel in town. Try Vegas if you want the lights and glitter of the big city.
Favorite Place
Love the Ramada, we have stayed in both the Garden and regular rooms.
The Garden Room is just super. They have better comps, the play is better. It is just a all round better place to have fun. Good food, good people.
My Favorite Casino and Hotel
Ramada Express has got to be one of the best hotel and Casinos in Laughlin. They have great comps, the rooms are very clean and the Staff couldn't be any nicer. Never had a "rude encounter" and I'm a frequent visitor. They have great slot tournaments at a very low entry fee and are fun to play. My only disappointment is that they took out their "Ripley's Believe it or Not" slot machines. But the Casino rates a 10 out of a 10. Highly Recommended, you won't be disappointed.
Good Pick!
My family and I are avid Laughliners. Always there. Although my parents, aunts, uncles, and grandmother love the Ramada, I must confess that it is geared more for the older aged people. However, my husband and I do stay here also. The Ramada treats there guests well. The rooms are always ready, and always clean. Very important. The slots are loose. My aunts always does well there. My husband and I play BJ, so the situation is a little different. The buffet is good, but I must agree with another reviewer, the Box Car Resturant is bad! Overall, very clean, organized hotel/casino. My family and I have been coming back for years. Headed that way tomorrow!!!
The only draw back is location. That actually depends on you interest.
If you are looking to gamble and hit different casinos when one goes cold, the Ramada is the only casino accross the street from the river/riverwalk. If you don't want to gamble, the Ramada is by the mall!!
Stuck in the middle
I didn't stay in the rooms here but I did spend my first night in the casino. The band at the bar was great. They were lively and really had the crowd going. It was the only casino that I went to during my weekend trip that had a cocktail waitress who actuall tended to the slot players (and was super sweet) The slots payed well and the lower bar has $1.50 beers- not the best beer, but it's beer. However, my last day in Vegas, a friend and myself went to the restraunt with the train cars before we got on the road. We both ordered french-dips and fries. It was horrible! The meat tasted like it had been sitting out for hours so to hide the taste, they saturated it in salt. We told the waitress and she wasn't happy but she tried to be pleasant. I would suggest playing, dancing, and drinking at the Ramada- but dont eat there....it is also adjacent to the rest of the casinos, so unless you want a little stroll- you might wanna find something on the river's side.
Love the friendliness
This is a great place to get away for a long weekend if you live close enough, but worth a trip for a longer visit. We've gone with and without our children and always been welcomed. The tribute to Our Troops, from the past and now is sure to bring a tear to your eye. I've never been lucky enough to win the BIG prize, but always seeem to come away at least even. And the perks for playing with your slot card are great. Meals, rooms, I even won a TV at Christmas. The river is close and so is the mall. You don't feel threatened by huge amounts of people and I feel my teenage children are old enough to cross the street and see some of the other sites. We do go to Vegas, but prefer Laughlin. Going there for the Fourth of July, great fireworks and good entertainment.
Friendly staff, clean
I thought the hotel was very well organized. The pool was very clean outside and inside. My room was very nice and had everything I expected it to have. However, I thought it was kind of a trip walking to and from the tower because I had to walk through the casino in order to go every where. But, overall the hotel was a pleasure to stay. I really liked the train ride too.
Clean, quiet and rather smoke free
After checking prices at several hotels we decided to stay at the Ramada Express. Being non smokers we were glad to walk into a room and not smell either smoke or the chemicals they use to hide the odor. The casino was fairly smoke free with smoke free areas to game, a plus with us. We had stayed at Arizona Charlies in Las Vegas the previous night at twice the cost and three the smell of smoke. The beds were lumpy and the lighting was poor. The Ramada bed was good and the air conditioner didn't sound like a train passing through the room as did the hotel in Las Vegas. All in all our brief stay was very enjoyable and we plan to come back again soon. By the way the Sunday Champagne Brunch wonderful.
