... the mountain. From there we took a second cable car that took us up to the Aguille du Midi, at 3842m. The view from the cable car was not inspiring, it was pretty much a complete white out. But this is the longest single span cable car in the world. It's incredibly steep too, you arrive at the cable car station almost vertically. On exiting the cable car we were in the middle of a snow storm. Standing on the highest bridge in Europe ...
... We understood the English video a little better than the French one... We also went for a short stroll through the city, checking out sites such as the fountain, flower clock and bridges. We were relieved to finally have some rest after all that riding in the rain. One thing that is confusing me is that the Rhone is filling Lac Leman full of dark grey coloured water, yet the water in Geneva is crystal clear. There are lots of ...
... done so far. Then down... Surprisingly, my legs weren't feeling too bad. I think the skins work! Despite our less than enthusiastic start, today's riding was a vast improvement on yesterday's. We had views, very little traffic, and only light rain! Also, it was our last day of riding before two rest days in Geneva! The hills were slow-going - it took an hour to cover the first 10km! Fortunately, the terrain became a little flatter later on. We ...
A cycle free day today as we took a road trip to Geneva. With overcast stormy weather we backed our trusty SatNav to get us there whilst avoiding the car tax entry. Advice from our host in Annecy put us on the right track and we made our way into the lake city without a hassle.
Aboard the Petit train for a quick tour then we footed it to the sights around the lake.
... it seems kind of like the Spire of Dublin – which is, a spire. In Dublin. In any case, the water spraying across the pier was heavenly since it was roughly 90-95 degrees without a cloud in the sky.
After our stroll along the lake, we ventured into the Old Town with Eleida as our GPS. We actually just saw a cute carousel at the intersection of a main street and a smaller cobblestone road and decided that route looked promising. Eleida was much happier, ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Ramada Encore Geneve Carouge
My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights 29th January 2007
Loved the place
Hotel has a good business location and has an excellent price /quality level. Broadband was available and rooms are very functionnal and modern equipped. Hotel has a nice ambiance and personnel is very friendly. Hotel to be recommended.
We (family of 5) stayed here for two nights recently. While it's a fair-rate clean hotel, don't expect any access to the internet or other business-loke facilities. I changed our rooms (two) literally three times, each time with a promise that the new room would have internet access (only 6 of all the rooms in hotel have internet access, believe it or not!) and yet, there was no access! Of course, they deducted the "internet " surcharge off the rate at the time of check-out. Nevertheless, I missed an important business I had to attend as a result of this. On the second night, I came down to the lobby at 2:00 am (business hour in North America) only to find that two people had already started on the only two internet stations available in there! They both seemed to be busy chatting on their respective sites with no prospect of seeing them off any soon! Ticked off and sleepy, I returned to my room after a useless protest to the front desk gentleman! Very frustrating, considering the fact that I had clearly emphacised to them that I'd be in need of an internet connection at that hour (I even had my own laptop, to no avail!).
I booked this hotel via the internet. The price was very reasonable for Geneva (especially during the local festival, which takes place in August) so, after reading the reviews on this site, I decided to go ahead. Well, I must say that I totally agree with the good stuff that's been said about this place!
Great hotel - shame about the location
Great hotel, rooms very comfortable and spotless, as was the whole hotel. Staff friendly and helpful. Location not so good, a fair way out of town, so its a taxi, bus or tram, we used the tram which is about 400 yards to the right of the hotel and cost 3 franks to get into city centre. It is next to the Geneva stadium, a concrete monstrosity, and backing onto a large railway marshalling yard which was the view from our window. No opening window in room which I found claustrophobic but room air conditioned. Hotel is very good value for Geneva, some of the city centre hotels would have cost for one night what we paid for 4! The old town is beautiful and we enjoyed the lovely botanical gardens.
We found this Hotel to be first class in all departments:very helpful and friendly staff, spacious and spotless bedroom and bathroom. The breakfast offered both hot and cold food and the evening menu was reasonably priced. A shopping centre adjacent to the hotel is very clean and packed with good quality shops---check out the beautiful coffee shop on the ground floor. Geneva is a 20 min bus ride away with buses cheap and frequent---up to 5 per hour.. Lake Geneva and the many parks and gardens impressed us most but our highlight was a trip to Montreux---a lovely peaceful town with gorgeouis views of the French Alps and the Lake. Our day finished with a 4 course dinner and a bottle of Montreux white costing 70 euro for 2 dining on the verandah of the local tennis club. All in all we had a great 5 day break in Switzerland.
We stayed at the Encore for 5 nights in Feb this year, and after going through alot of Europe, found this hotel to be the best yet!
Excellent mid-range hotel
This must be one of the best 'affordable' hotels in Geneva, where decent accomodation seems to be universally expensive. Spacious rooms with multi-lingual TV, friendly and helpful staff, and a good in-house restaurant all commend this one. A quiet yet well-appointed location helps too (right beside the football stadium, with shops/restaurants in the commercial centre adjacent).
The only possible drawback is the fact that the hotel is not central, but it only takes about 10 minutes to reach Gare Cornavin using the D line bus that departs from opposite the hotel.
Good business hotel
I have stayed in this hotel for two nights on a business trip in July. The hotel reasonably far away from the center, so you basically need a taxi to go see the lake or eat out in the evening.
Staff is friendly and there is internet access in the lobby. Breakfast is good too. Rooms are nicely decorated, beautiful bathroom! A negative point was the fact that there are no drinks in the room, you need to get them yourself at the bar downstairs.
