... didn't know what to expect from us and were slow to warm up but by the end of the concert, especially after La Fiesta they were well and truly new fans of the National Band. After the concert we had our final visit to 'Mr Beer' who proves that: 1: NZ beer is overpriced and 2: it's OK to drink can beer...half a litre at a time. Some finished up at 1:00am which on a normal concert night wouldn't be worth a mention but with a 4:00am wake-up pending we ...

After an eclectic breakfast ranging from traditional western fare to picked fish bones and, duck eggs and pickled lots of other things we are off for a morning of exploring before we congregate early afternoon to head to wherever our concert is. We have no idea of what the venue is, how many people will be there or what the reception will be ...

In addition to our previous stops we had an explanation of how the city was occupied by the Japanese from 1904 until 1945 when Russia's red army came through and gave it back to the Chinese. Various parts of Dalian have history from the different times and include areas of Russian influence. A large roundabout in the city has buildings of many different styles around it and other features and they apparently ...

... We spent the morning touring Dalian and got a taxi down to the largest square in Asia. The chinese don't like walking on grass so everyone used the walkways. The temp was just of 30degC and we were wearing our only pairs of shorts and a clean shirt. There were families out and everyone enjoying themselves. As we walked closer to the sea we could see merygo round and other amusement park rides. We continued to walk along the coast and ended up covering some ...

Our flight from Hong Kong was delayed due to a late arrival of the plane. We ended up arriving in Dalian at 10:30pm. Fortunately we got to sit next to a nice guy from Dalian who spoke good english. He gave us some tips on things to see in Dalian and advised us on how much the taxi from the airport should cost. I confirmed they would have meters to determine the cost. Once we arrived in Dalian we were pleased to see our bags ...
