Lima, Peru globetrekkerWell we are back in Lima for the last few days of Jim and Maxine´s stay with us. It has been really fun and we are so happy that they came all the way down here to share this experience with us. We spent one night in the posh neighbourhood of Miraflores and did some walking on the beach. Our last night is spent at the Ramada Inn attached to the airport. A very generous christmas present from Dave´s Parents (they are leaving at 4 am so the location is handy for max amounts of sleep). We head o...
Lima, Peru gypsylassWell, I have to say that Lima is a big big city. There are about nine million people hare and most of the city is very old, and in a constant state of repair. The city seems to need a lot of security, because there are guards and electric fences, and bars on the windows. Very different from Asia! We walked to the beach and looked at the sights there then took a taxi to the heart of Lima to see the Franciscian Catheredral Monasterio de San Francisco. There we took a guided tour through the ent...
Lima, Peru kahootzjohnToday is our last day in Peru, leaving very early for Panama in the morning. So we walked up the road and found the Huaca Pucalla site. Waited 10 minutes or so for the english tour. It was not too exciting, suppose there's not much they can do with a pile of old stones. Walked back towards the hotel and Franchesca got her wish to have a manicure, no colour though. Then we had lunch and went back to the hotel and packed up our things to leave for the Ramada at the airport. Our flight is at 7 s...
Lima, Lima, Peru sydneyalicatWe set off back to Puno, Peru to pick are backpack's up that we had stashed at a hotel in Puno. We decided to hire a tax to drive us back to the border. The driver spoke very little english, but we saved us 1 1/2 hours of travel time rather than the bus we took to La Paz. The border crossing is low key, I'm sure you could just walk across without a entry visa .. no real check point or anything .. just a gate. As soon as we where on the Peru side another driver asked us if we wanted a taxi to ...
Lima, Peru toddsmokeAfter a good night's sleep, we woke up refreshed if not fully rested, (Why do I think this is going to be a pattern for the rest of the trip?) and headed down to the restaurant for a great buffet breakfast. Just what we needed to energize us for the day ahead as we were about to take off for a guided tour of the city of Lima. OMG what a great way to learn about the history and culture of one of the oldest cities in the Western Hemisphere. Our guide was Rocío and our driver was Manuel. Rocío ...

Lima, Peru mikela... office all over the place! This makes it terribly difficult to book bus tickets because not only can you not compare prices- you have to be CERTAIN that the bus company you choose goes to the destination you want! I heard from other backpackers that they sometimes had to go across town a couple of times to find the correct company! What a pain in the "you know what!" Getting across town can take 30 ...
Lima, Peru allisonakemi... of bones that had been excavated and laid out in artistic formations for the public to see. Then it was time to pick our things up at our hotel and make our way to the airport for our flight home. Whereas on the flight out we had changed planes in Houston, on the return journey we would be transfering at Newark airport, New York. This broke the trip up into two pretty much even flights of about seven and a half hours each. The first went without a glich and we ...
