More small town experiences.

We arrived here in Perham yesterday ( 08/29/09 ) and had planned on taking a couple days 'off' to catch up on housework, etc. After checking in I picked up a couple of local tourist guides and discovered that the Finn Creek Festival was taking place this weekend. Not one to miss a festival we decided to see what it was all about.

The festival was being held at what had begun as a family farm. Over the last decade the Minnesota ...

Catching up...the covered wagon trail

... semis. I wish I would’ve had a radio. We could’ve had some real fun. LOL

I hit I-94 around midnight and finally got cell phone service back. Too bad it was too late to return any calls. I had already decided to drive until our next stop, my sister Heather’s in the Fargo-Moorhead area which is about 475 miles from the Farm we had just been at. I knew I ...

Leaving Minnesota

We are leaving Minnesota heading for Las Cruces NM for about a month. We have put the motor home in storage in Minneapolis so it will be here when we get back for the birth of our new grandson in October. I drove the Yukon, and followed Pete on his "new toy" - A Goldwing Trike. All went well for both of us!

day 28 (10 miles)

... on at least one day of riding. of course, getting in the van didn't prove to be so simple either. we have bike racks mounted on the top of the van, but for the most part, they haven't been used, so i ended up getting to troubleshoot them myself as, one by one, i found small problems with each. ultimately, i had to figure out how to do a quick repair on one of them before being able to strap my bike in. and of course, the wind hadn't died down, and it almost blew my bike ...

Frist thought

... so we stopped the whole hijrah idea.. I mean we checked in different states (Phily, Michigan, Az, Wa, Tx, Fl, HI (just for fun) and of corse our own state) We met a sister name Anne (I don't know how to spell her Islamic name) All so a revert to Islam, mashAllah! She was going to move with us... THEN Then one day out of the blue I don't know. We had started to get really in to where we are, I started to home school my daughter ...

packing up

Hi again :) it honestly doesn't seem like an entire year has passed since I started my last adventure. But here I am, a mere half an hour before I head to the airport. I would love to go into the detail of the hurry and scurry of my last minute packing and wisdom teeth annoyances (my cheek puffed up again :( lovely and fun) but I'm too excited and tired to do so at the current moment...I promise to give a full report upon my arrival. Wish me luck! and keep in touch!! halen

Myrna's Cabin and Sinclair Lewis' Main Street

... and Rose had gotten a good start on cocktail hour, and Bill and Sue arrived in time for lunch (and our first cocktail hour of the day!) on Saturday. We shared Myrna's pictures of the work that had been done on the cabin and her granddaughter; Norma Jean and Gus' pictures of their grandkids and their last couple of trips, to Austria, Switzerland and Ireland, and a few recent photos of Bill and Sue's beautiful grandkids, and, of course, a few stories and ...

Seeking out family roots in Alexandria, VA

... is one of the best examples of Alexandria's late eighteenth-century Georgian style. Not only that, but the administrator also has a superb collection of reference material and referred me to two publications which mention John and Anthony Crease and provide reference to a number of other sources. They also referred me to the gentleman who wrote the book, T. Michael Miller, by name and a building called The Lyceum, where he works. This building was built ...

Fear and Trepidation (or car trouble)

Trepidation is a word you probably don't see too often in blogs, but after doing another round of cleaning and checking my electrical system that is what I felt when I started the van up that morning. Living in the van, if it didn't move I was stuck and I was far from my home base ( I considered the van my current home) and as usual didn't have a lot of money to spend. Well it started but I knew there were problems ...

Two New Art Museums and Car Trouble

... Also it did something real sensible that I can't remember being done at any of the numerous other art muceums I had been to. The painters name and the name of the work of art were in big letters so you could read it from across the room. This was great for looking at a large painting from the optimum distance and still having the info handy. Of cours I always was getting up close to the paintings to examine the technique and more of the detail ...
