Hastings, Blue Earth, and Austin Minnesota

... boring but we made it safely.  By the time we got out of the show it had started snowing and didn't stop until after the show we had tonight.  Tonight's show was our biggest in attendance yet.  There was roughly 1500 people there and a BOSE sound system.  So that was a lot of fun to play with.  Robert's voice is still amazing as ever.  Sam and Robert are both selling a ...

Our first day with sunshine, even at 10am (after excellent free
breakfast included in our $44 room) it was baking hot but cooler as we
got moving. Got some good miles done, then lunch at Subway just after
we crossed the Mississippsiiisiiispiii River (sp?).

Then things
got worse, Bonnie got a bit of turbulent tummy so she overtook me and
directed us off the Interstate just south of Rochester. Eventually we

One night on the farm and then back on the road.

... Before we left the Perkin's lot however, a biker talked to Paul about our colors and he mentioned that he had received a Hope For The Highways (an NIV Bible for bikers) recently. Keep this biker in your prayers too. We don't know his name but God does!

Our ride to Twin Lakes was less than 100 miles and over the last two days, we only rode 138 miles. Our callouses are letting up...

Goodbye to Students

... For dinner we served “Vegetable & Spam Skillet Dinner” (squash, potatoes, and tomatoes) as well as “Fried Cabbage, Apples, and Spam”. We rounded dinner out with fresh local watermelon (amazing!) and corn. Our Austin friends had a good laugh because they don't eat as much Spam as you might think. Hey, it helped soldiers get through World War 2!

Our volunteer team was also pretty sad saying good-bye to each ...

Visiting the families

... the family is very grateful for this country and the opportunities here. They so appreciate how hard their children’s teachers work and the school lunch that is provided. They are thankful for having a trailer and enough food to feed their family. It made me feel like such a spoiled brat! I really have nothing to complain about. Now I have faces of a family to put to the stories I read about policies and undocumented workers.

Don't miss the turn off to go around Chicago...

... bike) but they had to stop and dig in their pockets every couple of miles.

That night, we stopped in Albert Lea, Minnesota and stayed at the AmericInn. One of the guys that was trailering had developed a hernia so he went to the hospital while the other two guys and me went for drinks and dinner. What can I say, I was ...

Life is most definately a highway

... to joke that my best friend's cello would fit the green giant as a violin, but I think that it would be a little small for this one. Well, I suppose they've got to do something for entertainment around here, in the middle of scenic nowhere. We can't figure out what this one plant we see growing on the side of the road is. I think it's soy bean but mom, dad and Lucy don't really have any ideas on what it is.

Windy Start

We thought the wind we encountered in Shelby, Montana was bad until we spent a night in Wall, SD. After the beautiful sunset the weather took a turn for the worse. The wind started to pick up during the evening causing a little shaking of the trailer, but by 2 a.m. the wind was blowing at a steady 40 mph or so and the trailer was rocking and ...

Ahhh Minnesoooota

... through a few towns that I can remember specifically: Blue Earth and Worthington to name the two prominent ones. But our best story in Minnesota takes place in Albert Lea. We entered Minnesota right before nightfall and stopped at the Welcome Center: it had a bathroom and vending machines and that's all I required. You had to walk through a gauntlet of pamphlets about how great Brainerd is or how Bill Bunyan originated to get ...

Day Fifty-One: Not Really that Bad of a Land (3)

... the lady at the counter said. We did see a life-size Jolly Green Giant. We ended up driving another 46 miles to Albert Lea. We took the exit and we got stopped at a railroad crossing for a train. We have the worst luck when I drive. Ten minutes later, the train is still crossing and then it eventually comes to a halt still blocking our way. So we had to turn around and go back on 90E to the next exit for Albert Lea. Got to a motel and ...
