We left Chicago early Saturday morning (9/13). Jeff and Mark made us a nice breakfast, helped us load the car and we were off. First tourist stop was the Spam Museum in Austin, MN. I did not realize Spam does not contain any snout or hoof...just premium pork shoulder. People were walking out with cases of this stuff. ...
... the Packer pre-season game tonight. Well with all the rain and with darkness descending, I chose safety over Packer loyalty and stopped in Austin, Minnesota, where we were treated to watching the Minnesota college game at the sports bar restaurant in the hotel. I wouldn't have minded eating a bad pizza so much if we could have had any other sport to watch, even tennis, but no, every TV was tuned to Minnesota College Football.

... the road after it happens. There was everything from deer to raccoons to possums. Charming I know. Our lunch stop was at a small visitor centre that had a grassed area but that's about it. We arrived at the campsite in the late evening and dinner was quickly prepared and laundry done. ... and saw some huge carp in the river we biked over. There was a controlled fire along the way from which you could see the smoke for miles. The city was burning all their brush and the fire department was there watching it. It was quite a large fire and the kids were a little concerned even with the fire trucks close by.
We went for lunch at the local pizza joint and it was funny to watch people ...
