One of the hard parts for us in traveling is the final break from home, to make sure every last minute detail is taken care of, so we often end up leaving in the afternoon and plan on a stop over in the Portland area, just to make that final break away.

... water containers. We bought a case of water (24 bottles) and refilled them for 2 months. Virtually all places we visited had potable water and most of it tasted fine. If it tasted a bit off, we dealt with it. This is both inexpensive ($2.50) and environmentally friendly.
