    ... far from the roadside. They are such beautiful creatures. We also found - and this is hard to believe - an even rarer creature, one whose obsessive photographing of everything that moves, and everything that doesn't, makes Steve look quite sparing and selective. Barbara asked this man, one of our fellow tour members, whether he was taking hundreds of photos. 'Thousands' was the reply.

    ... and headed through BC, but by then it was getting late. The border was very busy and we had a small wait in line but no problems getting through. The mountain pass was rainy and foggy and finally we decided to find a place to stay the night as it was just to far to Kamloops. We pulled off in Merritt and will have a shorter ride tomorrow night as we plan to stay in Jasper on our way to Grande Prairie.
    That's it for tonight, no phone use now for about 10 days.

    At first the land was hilly, then it got very flat and we were again in farm country. I wish we were better able to identify what we were seeing, but we did identify more olive and almond trees, sunflowers…fields and fields of them…corn, wheat, grapes and I don't know what else. But cross that white line down the street and right there either side of the road are two huge casinos, all bling, glitz and neon enticing the punters to empty their pockets. And there’s more gambling joints further down the street after crossing into Nevada and it is doubtless they more than anything else that contribute to propping up what in such an out of the way town would otherwise be a crumbling and dodgy local economy. ...
