    North Dakota - "Legendary."

Just couldn't believe how flat the country is in North Dakota. Flat prairie land everywhere converted to enormous farms for cropping or ranching. A huge State but only about 700,000 people live in it. Great traveling the roads as you see bison, wolf/coyote (not sure which), deer and elk. Oil drilling has taken off on the western side of Nth Dakota with wells all along the side of the roads.

We figured we had about 18 miles to get to Mandan, where Chuck and Laura would meet us and drive us back to our campsite, ...

... by a skinny white guy in bike shorts, and were too terrified to stop. Eventually, Mary and her daughter stopped. They were on their way home, only 10 miles away, but still insisted on tying my bike to the trunk and drove me the whole way to my campground. We had great conversation, and I thoroughly enjoyed meeting them. Not to mention how grateful I was for the ride. Ric******* ND > Hazelton ND, 121 miles (90 of riding, 31 hitching), day ...
