... had planned to boondock camping on Bureau of Land Management vast acreage around here, but discovered that it's hunting season, and apparently Nevada is BIG into this so there's swarms or hunters up in the hills where we had planned to go. Obviously didn't think it was conducive to our health to have a bunch of hunters with high-powered rifles and maybe a little booze around the evening campfire next to us, so we'll do this next ...

With The Loneliest Highway in America now behind me, I took a much needed day off in Ely, Nevada. It is what they call out here, a 'Big Town'. There are 2 main streets, a few small casinos and a bunch of run down motels that wouldn't cut it elsewhere. Reminds us of stretches of the Baja Penninsula highway, where there's no gas stations for hundreds of miles, literally. Anyway, really enjoying the easy drive on the back roads, with no traffic, straight as a Mormon missionary, fascinating humungous ranches in the foothills, mining roads up to seemingly nowhere, etc.

Tomorrow will be even more remote.

The day we left Schellbourne, I rode Duck miles (21) out to Egan Canyon and visited a small gravesite and then rode back to the little Shanty Town of Cherry Creek. Both, the Schell (Fort Schellbourne) station and the Egan Canyon Station were ...

... out in Aussie surf brands for 80% less then you would pay in Australia. Mark got some great deals on T shirts, jeans and shorts. We'll have to buy another suitcase to get it home. I won't have to buy the kids any clothes for a year.

Anyway, after our detour we got back onto the road with our destination of Ely which was more than 300 miles away. At 60 miles an hour it was still over 5 hours away. Here's how the 50 goes. Miles ...
