    We were supposed to go to Great Basin National Park today, but it was rainy and foggy, so we decided to just stay at home for the day. It was the first "rainout" we have had in our 5 trips cross country. We worked on the blog, took naps, watched golf and did the laundry - nice to have a relaxing day. ...

    ... wind. As we progressed into Nevada, handily welcomed by the small blue sign, the roads seemed to straighten out and the wind picked up. Maybe it has to do with the gambling here, who knows?


    We had been seeing snow in the mountains and on a few vehicles that approached us. The temperature continued to drop and got down to 34 on one of the several passes we crossed. At one point there was slush on the road and significant snow nearby.

    It didn't take us long to find our hotel in Ely and after the welcome margaritas we stayed in the casino for cheap burgers a few bottled beers.     ... road we were on the look out for deer. Soon a line up of deer could be seen crossing the road. As we neared we slowed to a crawl. The last deer was uncertain whether to cross or wait. It jumped out in front of us and fell down. Poor deer was so frightened it could hardly make it out of the road.
