The Scariest Walmart on Planet Earth

... and dear god this place was scary. Later I found out that Barstow was one of the crystal meth capitals of the United States. Let's just say that I can verify that from one trip to Walmart. We also waited at McDonalds for a half hour before we got our food. At least it tasted fine. Though, if we all end up with e coli, I think we'll all know the source.

The drive was pretty cool overall. We went from stark desert, surrounded ...

Off to Bryce Canyon national park

We woke up rather late and after a light breakfast, we got caught up on laundry etc and started off towards our next destination, panguitch, Utah. This was a drive of approximately six hours, from California to Utah, with a brief time in Nevada. The temperature outside was above 100 degrees Fahrenheit and the landscape was a desert. Pretty much no trees, only shrubs and small hills all over. But the highway was very busy and from inside an air conditioned car, it was a pleasant ...

... couples went to Big Bear so will arrive in Santa Monica tomorrow.
That means more freeway for us but only another hour fifteen so it was head down and go. Wow what a shock as we hit the LA Freeway network after 3 weeks of quiet roads and scenic byways.
On arrival in Santa Monica a swim and a visit to the Santa Monica Pier were in order. The beach hear is so different to home and we watch as the kids got smashed in the murky shore break time and time again. ...

... a spot of shopping at Walmart, using our walker talkies to keep the boys and girls in touch, we then hit the road of Route 66. Man, that section of the road is rough. Rather than replace damaged road they just repair it. We took this route in order to visit a living ghost town called Oatman. We have a lot of fun waking down the dirt road looking at the shops. ...

On the road, just after the sunrise this morning which was spectacular.

Out on Route 66 at 6am to get out of Kingman and onto Barstow. The road was fantastic, weaving through the back of Kingman and then up into the mountains. It was a little disconcerting as there were no barriers on the side of the road and some very sheer drops so it kept you very focused. There were tight turns and often the roads was covered indoor from the ...
