Or was it??

Snitch flew down & met me at our hotel, which is where we have stayed for 3 days.... the decisions we had to make:

When to go down to the pool
Which bed to sleep on
When to turn over
When to go for a swim
When to have a cocktail...

It has taken some serious thought!! Just in case you can't …

A day in Miami beach

We were awake quite early as there was a lot of people in our room, we went downstairs and had some of the free breakfast. We walked down 10 blocks to the shopping centre as Ayesha wanted a new backpack for Peru. We left the shops at lunchtime and walked down to the beach it was very beautiful but Miami is much more of a holiday destination than a tourist attraction. It was really ...

Miami Beach

... When we felt ready, we returned to our hotel room where we showered and got ready for some exploring. We walked and talked all the way down to the other end of Miami Beach (with a stop to get more filled churros) where we discovered a gaudy well-lit area which seemed to contain the more expensive hotels and restaurants of Miami Beach. I'm not sure what to make of Miami to be honest and I don't really feel that I can form much of a credible opinion ...

This Morning was like haven. My alarm clock woke me up at 7 o'clock so that after I put some swim trunks on I was just in time on the roof of the Betsy hotel that I could see the sun rising out of the atlantic. Up on the roof I was about an half an hour when till the sun was half way up. I sneaked back in our Hotelroom trying to wake up Mactar but he wants to sleep some more so I went down to the pool and did ...

    Loved the Raleigh Hotel

    from

Just returned from a fabulous stay at the Raleigh Hotel. Superb service, breathtaking pool area and gorgeous beachfront. An absolute must is breakfast at the pool area and I highly recommend the banana bread french toast. Although our stay was perfect the room itself was very spartan and could use a makeover. This in no way detracted from our stay since all the other amenities made up for it.

Delightful Hotel Stay at the Raleigh

    from

Lots of wonderful things to say about this quaint hotel - first, bang for your buck in the midst of South Beach $$$. Second - the pool - fabulous pool with great poolside waiters (esp. Ryan); be sure to grab one of the "beds" for a relaxing (more so than usual) sunning session.

Very well done, relaxing and classy

let me first say that i can be very particular about hotels. (possibly 'fussy') i decided to take a trip to either miami or the caribbean over the new year's holiday, and i probably looked at and considered dozens of hotels in the process. i want to be sure when i go and spend the money someplace, it's the right fit for me. I don't need something splashy or extremely luxurious, although that can be nice. I like to stay somewhere that's very comfortable, special, unique, great location, and a little pampering, nice crowd, great style, good vibe, etc.... i have stayed at most of the ian schrager hotels: ny, los angeles, london. this is the type of place i like, although his can just cross the line sometimes to pretentious and can be quite a scene. i had pretty much given up on my trip plans as all the places i liked were booked for the holiday, then on the morning of new year's eve, i made a few 'last ditch' calls to see if anything had opened up...one to the raleigh, and found they had a cancellation and offered me an oceanfront room with a terrace at a slightly reduced rate as it was last minute (checking in that night). i booked a flight to miami and checked in around 7pm. this hotel is fantastic. wonderfully restored art deco gem: classic and classy, subdued and beautiful. the staff: consistently very helpful and accomodating and gracious. just the right touch. i had a room on the 7th floor, one of only a few with terraces. the room was not huge, but decent size. there are larger rooms and suites in the hotel, but the terrace was worth it for me. overlooking the groovy pool and the beach and ocean beyond. the terrazzo floor took a few minutes to get used to, but then i came to like it. a very comfortable king bed. top quality sheets; down comforter; linen duvet; perfect large down pillows. all done just right. furniture and lighting all classic mid-century style. kiehl's products in the bathroom was a nice touch. vcr, cd sound system in the room is great. very high tech unit on the nightstand controls all lights individually, climate control, stereo, tv, vcr, phone sytem, etc. i've stayed a lot of places and i've never seen anything like this. perhaps a bit over the top, but it does it all. walk-in cedar closet with plenty of room to unpack and 'move in'. full minibar with all the drinks and snacks you would ever need. as part of the turn down service in the evening they automatically fill the ice bucket. nice touch.outside: they are right when they say the pool is 'the sexiest in america'. looks like an esther williams movie set. very comfortable pool area: lots of lounge chairs, some huge beds for lounging, some really cool classic wicker chairs from the 40's with canopies....plenty of choices. lushly landscaped. perfect pool pavillion at the end with bar and restrooms, and beyond that a sand area with palm trees and hammocks and tables and big, deep sofas for lounging or napping, half a dozen cabanas for private meals......then an open sand area with more lounge chairs for sunbathing, and then a cute little hidden gate at the end to get out to the beach. service by the pool was perfect. cocktails, a nice menu, very attentive staff. plenty of big towels. nice vibey music. what i was looking for was a relaxing getaway to de-stress and soak up the sun and this was THE perfect place: hang out by the pool for a few hours...wander down to the beach and soak in the ocean for a while...come back up and nap by the pool as the sun sets and candles are lit all over the place. it was the most relaxing time i've spent in years. If you want to stay in the middle of 'the scene'...Delano is ground zero. it IS beautiful and amazing and tons of the most beautiful people and always a party and all that. fine if you're ready for that ALL THE TIME. I liked to be able to go over there (6 doors down Collins) and hang out a bit in the evening once or twice, but you would never be able to fall asleep napping by the pool in the late afternoon as the sun goes down over there. good luck. I much preferred staying at the Raleigh. It feels like it's got some history and integrity to it. They allowed me to check out quite late (5 pm) the last day as my flight wasn't until 7:30, which allowed me to enjoy the entire last day there....just drifting around in the pool. A real class act. Just exactly what i was looking for. I will definitely be back next winter, if i can wait that long. feel free to e-mail me with any questions....i simply loved it.

    Perfection!

From the friendly valet to the charming manager, the staff of the Raleigh made my 30th birthday over Labor Day weekend a smashing success. The pool is spectacular, the hamocks an oasis. I will return, this is the classy part of South Beach.

    Loved It

    from

Great Hotel in a great location. Had an ocean view room with small but perfect balcony. Pool with private beach (great cabana bar) and access to main beach works well. Staff was very friendly without over doing it. Had brunch one morning and it was delightful.

    Nearly Perfect

    from

The Raleigh is a welcome relief from all of the Delano and Shore Club hooey. Casual but still elegant, the lobby has exactly what you want in a hotel lobby - comfortable seating, charming little bar, newsstand/coffee shop etc. The pool defies adequate praise - it is simply divine, especially at sunset when the water jets come on. The private beach area, with its lazy hammocks, has to be the most relaxing place in Miami Beach.

We stayed at the hotels for three nights in Feb. When we reserve the hotel we asked the operator if the city view room is quite as we are very light sleeper. The hotel operator told us the citu view room is very quite. So, when we got to our room, there was so much city noise we could not sleep the whole night. We asked to move to different part of the hotel. That was really frustrating as they do not communicate to each other. it took us about 4 hours and talking to 5 people before we were told that they can upgrade us to ocean view. So, we went out for late lunch and came about at 4 pm and they told us they could not move us. It took another 2 hours to finally get them to move us away from the city view. Once we got the ocean view for two night, everything went fine. I would advise light sleeper people to only stay at ocean view. The hotel has a good location but the staff is not very helpful.

    Raleigh Rocks

    from

My boyfriend and I just came back from the Raleigh Hotel in South Beach- and we had an amazing time. The staff were wonderful, the rooms were very cool decorated in a "1940's theme". One of the coolest features is the phone that controls the lights, T.V, and A/C with a touch screen. Only three MINOR drawbacks they have no drawers to put you close in- so you live out of your bag, they mislead you with the cost of parking- it says $20 for guests unlimited- with in and out privileges, but fail to mention its per night. We found out when we got the bill at the end of our stay. Although we did pit up a stink- and they waived the fee. Lastly the pool was not very popular, but yet there is the beach right behind which is ok. Overall it was one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at- try to get an ocean view- it's well worth the investment.

    Wonderfull!
