... they drive down. On many occasions a tuk tuk will be heading straight towards you whilst you have to swerve to avoid the camel next to your own tuk tuk! The only way I can think to describe a tuk tuk is a green and yellow toaster on its side with no sides on it an driven like a motorbike! This is how we usually get around. I absolutely love them.

The other day we went on a visit to Amber Fort which is an amazing old castle. The only way up this is by going ...
Jaipur, Rajasthan, India maddyroseindia... spring water that pops out of the hillside, out of an ox's head fountain, although it's only a dribble now and the pools are green with mould. there was ************e there when we were there (although we did pass a group of young boys just leaving, who spent ages having photos taken with us!), just a couple of holy men and a few hundred monkeys, so it was actually a little creepy! (wish we could attach photos, sorry!).

Then we went to another ...
Jaipur, Rajasthan, India perry.f.jacksonHello everybody This entry is going to be quite short due to the fact that we have done nothing but travel and lie in bed for the last four days! We left Colombo quite smoothly, and didn't get hassled whilst walking through the city with our backpacks on which was a relief. I am pleased to say that Andrew has bought some new shirts to replace the ex-white ones that I made him throw away. Seriously, the not-so-clean laundry man even looked at ...
Jaipur, Rajasthan, India niaandandrew... spirit! Covered in pinks and yellows they daubed some on willing travellers's faces. I was willing. A furtehr drive brought us to a rural village with a homestead or Haveli which formerly belongde to a rich moslem land owner who sold up to move to Pakistan. An unassuming frontage led behind walls to cuortyards and gardens with some of the largets and quaintest rooms on the trip. Never mind the power ...
Jaipur, Rajasthan, India indiandy... had an entire guest room and bathroom to ourselves, replete with a huge king size bed (no pushing two twin mattresses together). The home was built in about 3 years due to the elaborate detail throughout each room; from the inlay pieces in the marble floor, the handpainted cielings with intricate design, the lagoon themed bathroom made for her brother, the servants home outside, and the home theater in the basement that also doubles as a dance floor. Basically the home was ...
Jaipur, Rajasthan, India carrienica05After a spending far too much time in Delhi and chilling out for one last rest day we boarded the very nice express train to Jaipur. Being greeted by the usual auto-rickshaw drivers bustling for our business we managed to escape the station for the long hot walk to the hotels (still at least it was peaceful with no one touting their hotels). That said I did nearly let off some steam at one guy but as I turned around to let him have it it turned out to be a policeman trying ...
Jaipur, Rajasthan, India dockerills... of guides, being sure that I wasn't taken advantage of, etc. It was nice to be able to be relaxed for awhile relative to transportation. His total cost for the two days and 200 mile trip was $125. Once in Agra he took me to the Taj Mahal and then checked me in to the hotel here. My favorite hotel on the trip (in these photos) was the one in ...
Jaipur, Rajasthan, India martysb... give me, is fine" and he got out of the car and closed the door and sped off in a right huff. Sorry, but he WAS truly useless and soo timid. I just hoped he realised soon that tour guiding is not for him otherwise his poor wife and child will be very hungry. When he left, David and I happily skipped off to the bazaar to go shopping. I was in search of a lovely leather handbag and maybe a nice Indian top or something. How easy it is to buy these things in your head! At ...
Jaipur, Rajasthan, India mrsdp... navigate our way through, but it had been a long day and we were all in danger of sitting down on the steps and refusing to move any further. Our mood lifted when we saw the Palace staff start their Holi celebrations by dancing, drumming and throwing coloured paint around. Cameron, never one to shy away from an opportunity to get `really dirty´, duly perked up, had some colour applied rather delicately and was most reluctant to leave the party.
