Decided to take a detour on my way to Mumbai and stopped in Jaipur, the capital city of the state of Rajasthan. I couldn't decide which city to go to in Rajasthan..Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur and knew Jaisalmer was a bit out of the way for a weekend, so I stuck to my new found foreign travel plan, especially if traveling alone...go to the capital city of the state/country you are visiting if you can only get there for a weekend. It will have an airport and you won't spend your time traveling to ...
Jaipur, India bnbfsuUPDATE ON INTERNSHIP (PRAYAS) I'm being given a little more responsibility at work now, which is great, and I feel like I'm being utilized more. I wrote a quarterly report to one of Prayas' funding organizations on Friday and Saturday. And got a chance to go with one of the teachers for the Home-Based Services provided by Prayas on Saturday afternoon. This service is for parents with severely disabled children (since they cannot attend schools and need constant care and attention). Teachers m...
Jaipur, India dharshiniHello everyone, My apologies for not writing the last week ... It's been not too busy, but I didn't get the opportunity to go to the internet place as much as I'd preferred. I'll try a different style of writing this log, and give you a day by day brief run-through of my activities the last week. Last Friday - Nov 10th - one of the other trainees from PRAYAS - Mirte - and myself went to the Rajputana hotel to sell some products made by the children in the vocational class. We sold around 750R...
Jaipur, India dharshiniJaipur, our last stop before heading back to Delhi (and heading out!) is know as the Pink City, but really its buildings are painted with brick dust, so the effect is more earthy than the malibu shade I'd been hoping for. Jaipur's market is hopping- this city is known as a shopping Mecca. I didn't see much that tempted me in the narrow, crowded lanes, but I did watch a dentist at work on his designated bench in the middle of the shopping area. He pulled a woman's tooth (she didn't react in an...

... somewhere in the palace ready to make a buck out of you. I'd be looking at some items in the museum when a 'palace guard' would explain the history of a picture and wish for some rupees in exchange. Soon learning their technique, I stayed well clear.
After a couple of hours we made our way out of the palace straight into our 'helicopter pilot' from earlier. "So you want the tour, good price, see Water Palace, elephant home, Mughal India and Jewellery" he said ...
... will sell it for a little less to the next shop. They really are a big pest in this area. We also thought about getting shirts that say " I am not your friend" just because it is so funny how everyone says "Hey friend, come and look, how much you pay?"("Um I never wanted to buy that ****") "Hey friend, friend friend" is what we hear all the time. lol. One time we gave a banana to a young woman with a 1-year old on her arm. Then we got in the car ...
Jaipur, Rajasthan, India global-romy... my door quickly. This is my first experience with wild monkeys and I have no idea how they work. I didn't know if they were going to be withdrawn and scared of me or if they were going to gang up on me to rip my face off. Given Aditi's reaction, I figured it might be the latter. So I just stood in my room, facing the closed door. I didn't know what to do. There was no way for me to know ...
Jaipur, India megin... pretty good though -- definitely worth the climb. We walked down to the bazaar and checked out the spice and rice shops, the saree's etc etc...We went down to Sanganeri Gate and walked through more bazaars -- all of them ending up looking a little the same .... Some beautiful bangles and shoe shops and many many many saree's shops. We went into the biggest sweet shop (and it was air-conned ...
Jaipur, Rajasthan, India chooklotto... there. Brent plugged in the ethernet cable and I uploaded some blogs while he read Scientific American (having not yet found Scientific Indian at the local news stands). Our internet café buddy gave us a small cup of hot chai. Yum. I also took his picture with Brent and promised to send him a copy. When the computer battery ran out, we left the café and went to a little store to stock up on items for our train ride: water, soda, biscuits and ...
Jaipur, Rajasthan, India, India abn941... The third interview was with some Astrologer who was fasting and said he was to exhausted to talk for long. All together it made for an interesting stay in Jaipur. Along the way I also had the camera tripod stolen and had to spend about $90 (i used my own money) to buy back the same tripod again. Which sucked, but like they say **** happens. Anyways I'm burning up in here in the back of the Internet place, so I'll post again when I either have time or something interesting happens.
