Straight off the train we headed to old Islamic Cairo on foot to develop a better understanding of the culture and to see some lovely old Islamic architecture. Not that I've ever been to Kansas, but that famous line from the Wizard of Oz is kind of appropriate. Cairo is definitely a world of its own. I definitely stick out like a sore thumb on a person with no fingers. Everything about me screams tourist, which of course means a great deal of attention from taxi drivers at the airport. Unlike in Europe, these guys don't take no for an answer. I'm rather glad I organised a transfer in advance.
