Initially they said the restaurant wouldn't be open for another hour (ie until about 9.00am). When I pushed them a bit more one of them came with me, found the guy who runs the restaurant, woke him up (he was sleeping on some of the restaurant chairs!), & then he opened the restaurant & made me some breakfast!
There's no choice in what he cooks for you each day so it's just "breakfast ...
... so you can get a sense of our reactions to the stale stench. It's not called a siesta here obviously, but with Ramadan in full swing and heat at full height in the afternoon we were headed back. No restaurants were open and we needed to eat. Talk about going above and beyond, our host/tour guide had his mom whip something up for us, and it was the best food we have had here by a long shot. ... Nile with manicured gardens and fabulous pool area. I kind of wished we had an extra night to have a rest and enjoy it.
We agreed to meet up with Hedi and Barry after a bit of settling time and we set off to explore the city streets, with the midday call to prayer soon bellowing out loud and oh so clear across the city.
I soon came to realise that Cairo is much nicer than the Giza (pyramids) area. Its pretty awful around ...
... We also visited the Sphinx, and I was lucky enough to steal a kiss from the half man-half lion, much to Luke's dismay (picture to come!). As I am writing this, we are stuck in traffic on the way to the airport. Sitting in traffic here is much more interesting than in America, as we have spent the past 20minutes watching cars hurl themselves over the foot and a half high median of the interstate to get out of the traffic jam - imagine a car ...
... brief moment, looking good as the sun was dying down. Will have to go and explore them tomorrow.
Went to investigate the restaurant here as nothing really appears to be near the hotel - was very busy with people taking heaped plates of food from a buffet. Asked about it - less than £10 a head so agreed to go and dump our stuff etc in our rooms and then meet up 20 minutes later. Quickly tried the dongle - not working. Went back to the ...
