... surf, so with some trepidation we hired a bodyboard each (1pound per hour) and hit the surf. It was so much fun!! I have to say I was rather good at it too! I think we stayed in the water too long though as when we got back to the hotel our indian landlady said to me "you are as red an apple!" ... taxi driver said not to as they were too expensive (at 200 rupees, just over 2 quid) so the bartering started, we got it down to 150 rupees,(well the driver did, I would have paid the 200 quite happily) so I was now the owner of 5 Kg of mussels, I hope the hostel would cook these up for us

... all over Kerala. A festival was taking place down the road at a temple for about a week, music was blasting into all hours of the night and began once more at an obscene hour of the morning. The music was so unbelievably loud it was difficult to sleep longer than five or six hours in the night. We would frequent the neighboring tea shop after school, and the tea shop owner invited us to the festival one evening to watch what he described as a fire dance.

A long train down from Alleppey we arrived in Kovalam, Lighthouse Bay. It was boiling hot and we were looking for some accommodation, Kovalam is a beach resort so like Varkala it has plenty. We got a good bargain and settled down to some free wifi!

We woke up in our lovely room with two plans. 1. To find John and Kiah and to find Yasmin and Kev. Friend hunting was the order of the day and 2.
