... week. I myself have the PADI Advanced Opened Water certificate, but I hadn't been scuba diving for almost 2.5 years, so I felt a bit rusty at first. But I luckily got into it again quite quickly. And it was so much fun that I went straight to Backpackers World Travel afterwards to sign up for diving in Byron Bay. I hope Giacomo will get to do a course on Magnetic Island so he and I can go scuba diving in the Whitsundays ...

When they’re good they’re very very good but when they’re bad they are HORRID. Why did we think travelling with teenagers would be easy?? Spiky, moody, difficult to say the least.

This evening Rob and I went to the pub, on our own, and had a few glasses of wine and beer. Actually rather a lot.

The main things to do here are the walk to the lighthouse and a cycle ride paired with visits to the beach. Byron bay seems to suck you in in the best possible way and even though ...

... the name of one reef (Hastings) and I'm not sure if it was the first or second one that we went to. By now we had been allocated our own snorkels and we donned our fetching outfits as the boat approached our first dive spot. We’d all declined the offer of a wetsuit and instead opted to brave the cold water, though this wasn't such a problem when we jumped into the sea from the back of the boat. For the next 90 minutes we were given the opportunity to snorkel freely ...

... and suffered some disappointment as our previous ship had been more modern and larger with a swimming pool- soon settled down as people were so lovely.

Cruised for three days and nights. The cruise took us to Nathan Reef, Thetford Reef, Orpheus Island, Hinchinbrook Passage, Pelorus Island (private to Coral Princess parties) and Fitzroy Island. The cruise delivered at all levels- lovely staff, great coral/fish, blue seas, picture perfect ...
