... Lesley wasn't interested, but she surely did like the seafood.

The hotel is modestly priced, and we lucked into a corner suite with a kitchenette (and there's a supermarket next door, New York City style). They drink instant coffee here, and the room has master switch for the lights when you first walk in. Nothing works until you stick the 'fob' in it. TV is mostly different, but there are some shows you'd recognize. Lots more languages than you're used to.

We stopped for a walk at Karangahake, where we saw swing bridges and some of the beautiful scenery New Zealand has to offer. After travelling on to Waitomo, ...

... for a fat tongue being stuck out. Our final stop was a few days in Tauranga. When I've been dreaming of the NZ lifestyle over the past ten years or so, Tauranga is it. A decent sized city of 100k inhabitants, located on a harbour with stunning beaches nearby. Nearby Mount Manganui has one of the countries best beaches and a cafe scene like no other in the country, topped off with the 227m high scenic mountain right at the end of the beach. ...

... amp; chips. Sweet end to a beaut day! Day 4: It was time for us to leave the South Island (sad face), so we drove up to Picton to hop on the ferry back to Wellington. After Richard's trip to an insanely feminine hairdresser's, we picked up the supplies for Ruth's birthday and head back to Geoff and Michelle's. Once again we were welcomed with open arms and a delicious dinner of tamarind salmon, udon noodles and spinach. Yum. That night the birthday celebrations ...
