still, we shouldn't have had to notice. Apart from that though,
everything went swimmingly. There were loads of free maps and info
booklets at their office which I stocked up on for some night time
reading and the camper itself was awesome. Very clever design with; a
second battery to run lights/fridge etc without worrying about not
being able to drive the next day; folding seat into bed with ...
... park in the centre with its bubbling mud pools was very interesting to wander round. As the weather had turned decidedly Scottish, we were actually rather glad of the thermal activity and took advantage of the campsite’s natural hot tubs.
Onwards, to Tongariro National Park, home of volcanoes (one of which played the part of Mt Doom). Apparently the view of these things is stunning, but alas the cloud cover and rain was so dense that we couldn’t see anything. ...
... we had a few beers and went to bed. 29/4 Woke up around 9, and went for a dip in the river for a 'wash'. As Martin would say, cold with a capital f. It was horrendous. After cereal for breakfast, we went for a walk along the river into a few caves, all the way to dickey flat, where we were going to stay the night before. We then walked back via the forest, and it seemed like it took us forever to get back! We then packed up our things and moved on. Hobbiton was on the cards ...
... Heading back, we stopped at the huge sand dunes at the northern end of the 90mile beach. The dunes felt like somewhere in the desert!
Unfortunately my time with my Bede's friends was over, however was a fantastic couple of weeks together and will all be back in the UK soon. Icaught the 11hr bus to Wellington from Auckland to visit Lola my sisters godmother and family. It was lovely to spend time in a family home again, seeing Tim and Ollie who have both changed and grown up ...
... The evening was really fun and interesting. It ended with feast which included roast chicken, stuffing, lamb, vegetables, muscles and lots of puddings. On our journey home the driver got us all singing classic songs and ended up going round a roundabout sooooo many times!! On Friday Jen and Nicola got up early to go white water rafting which was soooooooooo much fun!! We went down a waterfall which was 7m and survived. No one fell in but Jen got pushed over by a ...
