... up from the arrivals hall and took us round to their lot to fill out some paperwork. A quick 5 mins orientation with a map and a highlighter pen and we were on our own in a shiny red Ford Focus heading 20km into an unfamiliar city - eek! As it happened it was pretty easy. The hotel directions saw us slip up only once when a road sign was covered by overhanging branches. A quick U-turn put us right though. The hotel is right n the harbour - only the Hilton is closer to the water by ...
Auckland, North Island, New Zealand chris_calcite... her brother Thomas and his wife Jennifer if they could put me up which was nice. They are a lovely couple, very thoughtful and helpful. They have even offered to give up their bed for me so that i can get over the jet lag. After a lovely meal of bbq fish and sweet potatoes and lots of play time with the little girls I was feeling much more positive about things. There,s Cassie who's just started pre-school who has lots of energy to jump up and down all ...

... apparently the stop-start rain kept everyone else away. Perfect.
After the zoo we found a gigantasaurus supermarket and stocked up on supplies - bread, peanut butter, museli bars, timtams etc and headed back to the hostel, completely beat. We met up with Jane again and the three of us bravely partook in the hostel's Free Dinner, i.e. 3 vegetarian spring rolls, some lettuce and chips. Whatever, I didn't have the energy to make anything else.

... but also the tragic life story he had to tell.
Sun setting we jumped in the wagon and set south for a small village where we planned to stop the night named 'Twizel' - as yet we still have no clue how that is pronounced. 5 minutes told us we should get the hell outta there. Nothing but a small chipie which was shut and a very scary hostel which stank also of chip fat run by a very scary lady. I'm sure it's a very lovely place and there are some lovely ...
Shortly after writing our last blog we decided we were having too much fun in NZ and getting too attached to the Woodpigeon. After an hour on hold with Qantas we managed to change our ticket - for free!! That gave us 6 weeks in New Zealand altogether!! Arrived in Fox Glacier in the mist and minus my book (which randomly fell out the van, how? I don't know). The mist continued for a few days, woke up on Matts birthday to a beautiful clear day ...
Auckland, North Island, New Zealand thewallers... the sea. Many more people have turned up by this point and as I stand back from the scene it looks ridiculous. At least fifty people frantically digging away at the beach to lie in these little pools in the fading light. Near to where we are digging are 4 German guys and they make a bid to join pools. In the spirit of EU cooperation we decide to join forces and get digging. The German guys project manage and to be honest I mostly sit on my **** watching. Eventually we have a huge pool which ...
Auckland, North Island, New Zealand adam_and_kimVery odd start to the trip searching around the free places for the Auckland Art Festival i happened to wonder into a gallery which it now has transpired that it was in actual fact part of a university. It also so happened that i happened to wonder in as a panel driven debate was about to start. This whole situation was made stranger by ...
Auckland, North Island, New Zealand jamesmtn... of possibilities. The baggage race has begun! On your marks! Get set! Wait for it! Go! 'Err, excuse me but I think that you have picked up my bag...oh no I beg your pardon. I'm so sorry, its just that they look so similar.' No such troubles with my bag, there are no other rucksacks wrapped in raincovers and green radioactive green luggage straps, now thats the way to travel! As I am reorganising all my straps and covers and togs and twiddles I over here a 'kiwi' being ...
