All we want is to bring back tourists to our fantastic Island by offering all sorts of entertainment and excursions at a price that they won't find with other :
Trip around ...
Mahires to Aghir
... back to England, and we head to Libya tomorrow. No alcohol is allowed in Libya, so will be enjoying some sundowners on the beach tonight to finish off whatever we have left.
The Trip Odometer has reached 3000 Km without much fuss. Let hope it continues, but I'm sure with Libya, Egypt and Sudan to come, there are some interesting times ahead, and many more hours of sitting at a border post.

Jerba: Dirt and shrubs
... a camel or horse. By the conclusion of the tour, I (and everyone else) was coated with a thin venire of sand, my hair was matted from dirt as if I had plastered it with hairspray, and I could feel the grittiness of sand in my mouth.
Jerba was a nice place for us to relax for a few days and do a whole lot of nothing, but I would not make it a future vacation destination.

The island of Jerba
... under the stars. We could not have planned this better. We cooked a nice meal, drank the last of our booze (which included a bottle of Moet champers!!), quite a treat. We went to bed exhausted after a long day........and then........ Cape Towns south-easter struck in Tunisia. About a hour after we went to bed the wind picked up, and we were forced to abandon ship, and take the tent down. Needless to say, we slept in the car, it was a long night!!!
More pics on next post..

The Isle of Djerba
... as well as the medina area of Houmt Souk, Djerba's main market town. The medina was very quaint with its traditional Moorish buildings looking out over pretty cobbled squares. Winding lanes are fringed with craft and antique stores and traders are willing to haggle over goods such as ceramics, jewellery and spices. Many of the locals wore traditional dress which seemed similar to Mayan costumes from Guatemala!

Excellent
We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay at the Radisson, Djerba in March this year and would recommend it for a very relaxing break. The hotel has been very well re-developed and the rooms are modern and comfortable. The spa facilities on site are some of the best we have experienced.
We really enjoyed getting to know the staff. They're all very friendly and always professional, I think they enjoyed practicing their English as much as we did our French!
There was only one other English family at the hotel; most everyone else was from France, Germany or Italy, which we loved.
I spent some time at the Mistral centre on site learning to kitesurf in the massive shallow lake next to the hotel (note: the lake is only there in winter, we heard it dries up in summer). Roger and Brit, who run the centre, are great fun and made learning the new sport really enjoyable.
There are other activities available, as you can see from their web site, but we did hear that a 9-hole golf course is being constructed next to the hotel. We may be going back to try it out next year.
Typical Radisson luxury
What an excellent stay at an hotel with top-notch services with
certain provisos.
The plus points are numerous. The interior design is spacious, understated and cathedral-like. There are many little hidey-holes where one can find privacy and at no time is there a sense of hurry to mar your holiday. The rooms are equally spacious, more modern in concept but with comfortable,
uncluttered furnishings. The outer grounds are large with
different pathways leading to various attractions ( beach,
Tennis,in-house restaurants etc.,). The beach is remarkably clean and in a prime position with both in-house bar and snack bar / restaurant easily to hand within no more than 50 yards.
The spa Thalaso spa facilities are second to none and with enough personnel to guarantee little if any waiting or pre-booking.
There is one Main communal restaurant ( Le Ceramique)
which is large and airy with a non-smoking section(which is
disappointingly smaller than the smoking section;not a
surprise considering the predominately French/German
breakdown of the clientele.) The choice and presentation of food is of the highest quality with a discreet presence of ever-helpful
staff.
The Management staff are exceptionally helpful, courteous
and willing to help ALL clients with any pet foibles.
Cleanliness within the hotel is second to none with even the beach being swept twice and thrice a day.
The Minuses ( there are always some or we wouldn't be
English ). Don't go expecting a cheap holiday.Prices in house
are comparable with the U.K. and if you're not into the culture
of tipping prepare for a few upsets.Overall I would put a weeks
general tipping for all staff at about £50.00 in total. The Thalasso spa prices are also comparable to U.K.prices.
There is a lack of coherent evening entertainment
programme with guests doing their own thing at their own
pace (no bad thing but not for those who prefer a more structured
approach).Very few signs, food and service descriptions are in English so a smidgeon of French or German would be
helpful.
There are at least three in-house themed restaurants which are a-la-carte and have to paid for separately. This is
nice for the odd special occasion but does mean that there is
a certain emptiness to most of them because the main
Board inclusive resaurant (Le Ceramique) is the most
frequented..
Djerba is Muslim by religion and therefore alcohol is
expensive.Beer is about the same price that you'd pay in U.K.
for 33c.c bottle (£2.00) Whisky drinkers please arrange a
mortgage before leaving the U.K.;prices around £10.00 a shot.
Wine is similarly priced to U.K. and water around £1.50 a bottle.
Overall a great hotel if you're not on a really tight budget.
Superbe all the way
We stayed at the SAS Radisson for a long weekend. Only a short flight from Nice, it's THE perfect destination. The Radisson is the only hotel so far (and we've stayed at some 5+ stars hotel around the world) where you truly get spoiled rotten.....the staff are out of this world: very helpful & friendly-but not TOO MUCH (as one experiences in Asia). The rooms are very stylish and modern, pool is great. A must is the SPA, treatments are heavenly, being pampered is the word here....we went to all the restaurants (4) the food is very good and since there are four of them, you have a variety of foods available. From previous travels to Tunisia I have to say things have improved a lot. Great breakfast too, lots of choices. All in all, we highly recommend this hotel.
One teeny tiny criticism : the hairdryers...they are a bit outdated.
Tres bon hotel a recommander
tres bon hotel de qualité méritant son classement a recommander.
A superb hotel in every way
My wife and I stayed in this super-stylish, internationally rated 5 star resort during the second week of September 2006, in an ocean-view room.
It is one of the best beach resorts that we have visited in this price range.
In particular, we appreciated the excellent staff, fabulous design, great attention to detail, carefully prepared and high quality food, and overall tranquil ambience.
Both the pool and beach area are wonderful: picturesque, clean, and tranquil.
In short, our entire experience was excellent from start to finish. On this long strip of beach in Djerba, the Radisson is certainly in the best spot. It has no immediate neighbours to one side, and another high-end resort (Movenpick) to the other. Further along the beach, it is certainly more down-market.
If you want elegance, luxury, quality, and relaxation, head to the Radisson. If you want crowds and noise, head elsewhere.
