Dear all, We made it to our northernmost destination. Tromso boasts of many things that are the "northern most", such as the northern most Lutheran Chruch, northernmost brewery, etc. We have touched base with our glacier hike guides for tomorrow and have freshened up a bit, so we are going to go and head out to take a look at some of the city. Enjoy the pictures. Hugs and kisses...

... a medical check-up. These three seals are apparently the only bearded seals in captivity. After that we got some beers, the first few beers that we have been able to afford! These were the cheapest at 1 pound a bottle, and the cheapest that we have found so far. We also went for one more walk, but again no luck.

A nice and early start for our journey towards Boden, where we stayed the night before carrying onto Rovaniemi, Lapland, Finland!
Tromsø, North Norway, Norway ktandash... Paris of the North". Various versions of how this nickname came to be have become imbedded in the mythology of Tromso. The most romantic seems to be that the fine women folk of the town wore finery that was the envy of the north, and every bit as fine as the fashions of Paris. But, pick your poison to continue on a theme.

Tromso is linked to the mainland by a well designed bridge measuring 1,016 metres. The volume of traffic on the bridge is such that a road tunnel has ...
Tromsø, North Norway, Norway sinilintuIt has always been my dream to see the Aurora Borealis, or the Northern Lights, and I have been listed it as one of my life list goal. This magical phenomenon has attracted me for years. The multi color display of light in the sky is like a mystical dance performance of the Great Universe. It just makes me to wonder how wonderful it is simply to be part of the Universe. At the first moment I saw the Northern Lights on TV, I was ...
Tromsø, Troms, Norway cristinawTromso.. the aim of the game Tromso is a long way from Stockholm. It takes 19 hours on an overnight sleeper to a place called Karvik, a surprisingly decent sized and civilized town. Then a three hour bus journey from there, through the arctic landscape, to Tromso itself. The train ride is not too bad, although train bunks are not the most comfortablebeds ever, and you are crammed into an incredibly tight space with up to five other people, (three bunks high on each side),but at ...
Tromsø, North Norway, Norway jimborussellArrived in Tromso at about 1730 and went to the Radisson to ask about the airport bus, when the first one was and when the last one was. Last one was at 8pm and the girl said that the airport shuts at 1am. We decided to go for a wander and ask a second opinion. We found reasonably priced cabins for the night out at the campground and called the taxi to find out how much ...
Tromsø, North Norway, Norway leahandgreg... and we ran some errands. I finally got some money exchanged and picked up some postcards. We met up for dinner at this fancy place called Steakers. We were told by the hotel that the restaurant had a special: all you can eat steak for 159 NOK. Turns out that it was actually about 290 NOK. Some people were freaking out. It was a good meal, but not worth 60 USD. I got a chance to talk with some people on the trip that I hadn't gotten a ...
Tromsø, North Norway, Norway amadhatterI went back again in the house of Liv and Julia. This one taking the time to enjoy their crazy life: both of them are as funny as they are crazy: part musicians, part singer, part video maker and definitely a kind of artiste. they just welcome me in their house, in the middle of all their friends to show me Tromso/Norway life. Tromso is a town of 60000 inhabitants and at least ...
Tromso, Norway worldtaste... a bus from Tromsö to Honningsvåg but the direct line only runs during the summer. Our option was to take the bus to Alta on one day and another bus from Alta on the next. That was going to involve a lot of bus riding and an expensive hotel in Alta (since the hostels are closed after the summer). We wouldn't even get to look around Alta (which sports an exhibit with 3000 stone age drawings) because the bus would arrive late and leave early. Lucklily we found that the ...
