Dear all, We made it to our northernmost destination. Tromso boasts of many things that are the "northern most", such as the northern most Lutheran Chruch, northernmost brewery, etc. We have touched base with our glacier hike guides for tomorrow and have freshened up a bit, so we are going to go and head out to take a look at some of the city. Enjoy the pictures. Hugs and kisses...

... Lothar Rendulic to lay ruin to all of northern Norway as far south as Lyngen Fjord. Consequently, just about dwelling between Lyngen and the Russian border was destroyed and the people forcibly evacuated. The destruction included chopping down or blowing up some 31,000 telephone poles, the burning of barns and feed stock and the wholesale slaughter of just about every farm animal. The locals who chose not to participate in the evacuation fled to the hills and lived in caves ...
... to enter to the country because didn't apply for a visa. According to information we found before leaving home, it showed that none of us need to apply for a visa
to entrance Norway. That's why we didn't apply for it. They didn't let us pass until after about ten minutes they confirmed everything was okay. . .The airport was smaller than we had expected, but it still nice and comfortable. First thing we looked for at the ...

... foot of not so compacted snow, being snowed upon by millions of fresh shiny new snows which fell constantly all day. For someone who has spent the last four or five years up in the tropics this was a pretty awe inspiring thing. I love the snow, and couldn't wait to **** danny off by throwing some at him. We decided to take a bus into Tromso town and have a look around. Our hotel was out by the airport on the other side of the island which the town of Tromso inhabits, and the ...
Tromsø, North Norway, Norway jimborussellArrived in Tromso at about 1730 and went to the Radisson to ask about the airport bus, when the first one was and when the last one was. Last one was at 8pm and the girl said that the airport shuts at 1am. We decided to go for a wander and ask a second opinion. We found reasonably priced cabins for the night out at the campground and called the taxi to find out how much ...
Tromsø, North Norway, Norway leahandgreg... was very cool - sort of like sheets of glacial ice on top of each other. Then, we did some souvenir shopping and have also had some more time to talk with each other, which has been good. Next, we walked over that big bridge you may have seen in previous pictures to visit the Arctic Cathedral (built in 1965) in person. This was very cool and is built with huge slabs that are separated with glass so that the exterior ...
Tromsø, Norway engelkeros... Tromsø also means that there is sun 24x7. This was very cool at first, but soon it is totally disorienting. I have no idea what time of the day it is or what meal I should be eating. Sleep is best taken in short naps throughout the day as sleeping for an 8 hour stretch while the sun is up seems almost impossible! On Friday, I drove on the right side of the road for the first ...
Tromsø, North Norway, Norway ccq... mins) that leaves from Oslo central train station to Oslo airport but we'd decided to opt for the ordinary train which only takes 10 or 20 minutes longer and costs half the price (82 NOK single ticket). At Oslo airport my bag was searched at airport security, everything out then back in again, kind of annoying but reassuring too. Our first flight took us to Tromso, a small airport, outside a thick layer of snow covering everything. We had a seven ...
