... us up so that we arrived at the dock ten minutes prior to sailing.

The weather here is so invigorating if you enjoy a tad bit of nippiness, some wind and the odd touch of rain. The topography is starting to become starker which is just great. Truly lovely.

Tromso is tomorrow and a visit to OlHallen (the beer hall) and the Mack Brewery for a pint from the watering hole that advertises itself as the brewery farthest north on the planet.

Bodø, North Norway, Norway sinilintu... necessitating a 180 degree turn to dock successfully. An announcement was made (in Norwegian, English and German) just prior to departure, increasing the number of guests on the deck, all crunching noisily on the refrozen remnants of snow. We powered slowly out of the dock and turned sharply into the Trondheim Fjord to begin the journey. Just as we headed off it began to snow - the first of many sudden weather changes for the voyage. On my way back down to the cabin I stopped ...
Bodø, North Norway, Norway v1213... It's go green and there are incredible views in every direction from where we're located. As for our activities so far: the first week or so was pretty laid back and filled with trips to school to get registered for classes and find our way around, to the grocery store for food and into town to shop for the things we didn't know we'd need or decided not to take up room in our suitcases by bringing. One major difference to be noted here is that good food and pastries can ...
Bodø, Norway jazzoboeCrossed over the Arctic circle today which officially runs 66° 33 north of the equator. Had a chilled out day on the boat, watched some of the ice glaciers pass from the jacuzzi and sauna on the boat and am hoping to see Aurora Borealis (or as its more commonly known as the Northern Lights) tonight as there will be no light pollution out at sea and its been a clear day.
Bodø, Norway markwilliams84... camping I mean nice cabins that we got to stay in. I got to share a cabin with Kristin and we had the time of our lives sharing stories and chatting. We were having so much fun that we almost missed dinner. The next day we were up and out by 8. We took the bus all the way back down to Bodø, where we were going to fly back to Oslo. Luckly we had a few hours before out flight left so we got to walk around the town some ...
Bodø, Norway tinga... I was tired and really wanted to sleep. We went to the Sami cultural museum, which was nice, but the guide was talking WAY too much that none of really remmber anything from the museum. We then had a meeting with the ex-president of the Sami Parliament. He was interesting and gave us a lot of good information. We finally that afternoon made it to our cabins we were staying in for the next two nights... in Hamaroy. You'd think for ...
Bodø, Norway julieflickner3... than I had gone with Julie the night before. The weather was so nice when we woke up, which made for some beautiful pictures. It was this morning (Thursday) that I officially fell in love with Norway. It was incredibly beautiful and unique. After a lovely walk we came back and got ready to go. We met the bus and it drove us out to this beautiful light house. The sky was a most beautiful blue, and the clouds were such that it ...
Bodø, Norway korvette923... the tree line. (Yeah, you got that right. Not above the tree line, north of it.) No trees can survive in this region of severe cold and high winds. The winds actually made the bus shake as we crested the hill out of the valley and reached the plateau that leads to the Nordkapp. When we got out, we were buffeted by winds so strong that we could not safely negotiate our way to the Children's Peace Monument just past the ...
Nordkapp, Norway oneyearaway... retail park were uncharacteristically unpleasant for Norway. The scenery around the town, however, is stunning with postcard views of snow capped peaks and icy fjords. We learn a little about the history of Bodo and the second world war at the excellent Norwegian Aviation Museum in town. The building, shaped like a giant propeller, had great exhibits and displays with text in English. Being so far north, Bodo was one of the last towns in ...
