... strange as it was around 7pm that we were walking through the park and over to the other cathedral and it was still broad daylight. ... Posad (Sergius Settlement) was quite pretty and there was a feeling of pride about the town. The monastery itself is magnificent. It has always been a major centre of study and training for the Russian Orthodox Church. It was inexplicably allowed to remain open all through the soviet period. ... with excesses, revolution and change. On the tour she had a mission, I am sure, to keep us active, hungry and unrested for the whole 5 hrs and woe betide us if we failed the test at the end.
