... of the way... it is EXPENSIVE here. The Canadian and US dollar are almost 1:1 right now, so you'd think things would be, like, the same price as in the U.S. No, no, NO. It's like you step out of the airport and you just haemorrhage money from then on. There are taxes and charges for everything. One single smoothie cost us over $7 today, and that's not even taking into account the exchange rate. Being at the end of a six-week trip, this made us even ...
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada travelmounties... We can see the snow capped mountains from our room and the hotel is very close to shops, restaurants and the bus. It's a really nice room too, which is good as we're here four nights. The weather is lovely and sunny, only about 13 degrees but doesn't feel that cold. Spring has sprung and the daffodils, tulips and blossoms are out although many of the trees are still bare.
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada souter... yourself strangely awed and enjoying it all immensely!! The bright lights of the trip, the intensity of the noises, the incredible amount of choice and variety, the bustling crowds of people, the surprisingly friendly staff, and the amount of building and construction...it all amazes and overwhelms the senses!! So, I had a few Corona 's while I waited for my friends to arrive - and the people-watching was brilliant!! All ...

(How I Met Your Mother reference there for those that don't watch) We grabbed a bus back into town and decided our next move. We had intended on going to the Boedel Conservatory but by the time we got there they were only open for another 25 minutes. Rather than waste the time or money we decided to stroll the gardens at Queen Elizabeth ...

Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada steph-is-abroad... for 2 nights. They give a discount for seniors!! We then drove to Steveston Landing which is at the point where the Fraser river meets the Pacific. There is a Fisherman's Wharf there ( a la San Francisco). This was great. We inspected all the Fishing boats selling their fresh catches along the wharf: sockeye salmon, halibut, skate, prawns and octopus .Bought a lovely ...
Richmond, British Columbia, Canada mrsmac... time. My first lesson is on wednesday at Jericho Beach, I'm really looking forward to it! I've also started volunteering at Stanley Park, helping to educate visitors about the history, wildlife and habitats present in the park. I'm so pleased to have escaped the hostels for the time-being! It's fantastic that I now have my own space. I've taken a few photos of the local area. It's very quiet and only a 5-10min bus ride from where I work. You really can't beat the scenery here.
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada jta... aging gracefully. The house and garden look pretty much the same, but it's cold!! Wednesday, while I went to pick up my brother Nick at the Tswassan ferry terminal, Jena nd the girls went up tothe UBC bookstor, always a favourite stop when we come out here. They bought me a journal (that's for your info, Donna), and I have promised to write in it regularly. We had a great visit with Nick...during the afternoon we too a very ...

Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada fuzzyhatjon... Despite my Tim Horton's pick-me-up before we took off, I still managed to spend most of the two and something hours flight dozing. (Eith** that, or I was just trying to ignore Scottie, who really wasn't at his best in the early morn...).
