Day 1 - Arrival in New York

1996 - Day One -New York

After checking in at Heathrow we had no problem having to hang around waiting for our flight as Terminal 3 is much better than Terminal 4. There were lots of shops and entertain us until our flight was called and then it was straight on to the plane.

The flight was very long (71/2 hrs), we took off at 10am GMT and landed at 12.30 EST and after getting through customs with no problems and picking up our luggage we just picked up a taxi at the airport to t...

Day 2 - New York

1996 Day Two – New York

After breakfast we walked up 5th Avenue as far as the Metropolitan Museum of Art and then went for a horse drawn carriage ride around Central Park. We had a very nice driver who came from Florida and was very good at pointing out places of interest, including the building they used in Ghostbusters and where Bruce Willis, Al Pacino and Woody Allan lived. We also passed the skating rink and the chess players. It's so strange seeing all these places for real ...

NYC - home of the pigeon-dog

So beginning the trip in the US turned out to be a great idea. We jumped on a "hop on hop off" bus and saw all (or at least a portion) of NYC in a day. The pictures say it all but for a quick run through we hit up: Rockefeller Center, Times Square, Empire State Building, The United Nations, Saint Paul's Chapel and Ground Zero. We also cruised past the Statue of Liberty on the  Staten Island Ferry, which is possibly the cheapest thing in New York(since it's free) besides maybe the street dogs ...

Manhattan

Met up with Navaz's cousin who was the evening manager at the time. Rooms on the 15th floor. Awesome views, especially the hottie across the way who liked walking around in her thong. Did the uptown and downtown tours. Strawberry Fields. Hansom Cab in Central Park. Gray's Papaya. NY Pizza. The Cupcake Cafe. The Empire State Building. Grand Central. The Statue of Liberty. Ground Zero. "Chicago" on Broadway.

Historical Traveler Reviews of Radisson Lexington Hotel New York City

Great value and great hotel!

from CSIMelissa
I stayed at this hotel from 5/30/03 until 6/03/03 and I was very happy with it. Granted, the room I shared with my mother was small, but it was clean and quiet. We had twin beds in the room but they were very confortable. The hotel staff was very friendly and went out of their way to help us feel welcome. There is also a Starbucks, a Chinese restaurant, an Italian restaurant and a wonderful cafe located inside the hotel. I will be staying at this hotel again and I would recommend it to anyone. I feel I got a good value for my money. However, those used to the Waldorf Astoria may not be happy with it.

Good Location, Average Hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed at the Radisson Lexington Hotel in May 2003. This is a very average tourist hotel in a great location for exploring the delights of NY. We were booked into a petite room and although compact, it had all the amenities needed. The decoration could have been better than 'brown' and the stains on the carpet were rather off-putting, but these were just minor things. Bathroom was clean with powerful shower, plently of towels and a bath. Take advantage of the ice making machines located on several floors for chilling wine from the wine shop across the road or beer from the deli on the corner opposite.

Fabulous hotel!

I recently stayed at this fine hotel on business for my trip to NYC. The Radisson Lexington is a beuatiful hotel, with helpful and courteous staff, as well as unparralled amenities. It seems as if previous guests have expected something unrealistically extravagant. A previous review put it very well: "It's a Radisson." You would get the same servies and amenities at a Marriott, Hilton, or anything else in it's class. If you want the Regent or the Waldorf, STAY THERE! But this is a truly fine hotel with great location, and nice services. Classic yet contemporary foyer, well appointed guest rooms, and wonderful food!

Perfect Location

from A TripAdvisor Member
My friend and I recently travelled (March 28-31) to New York and stayed at the Radisson Lexington. We booked through Expedia, and what a great deal we got. Before we had left I had been checking the reviews of the hotel and generally found them to be negative. Because of the reviews I was expecting the hotel to be a complete dump. When we arrived I was pleased to find that the hotel was nothing as described in other reviews. The hotel is in the perfect location, close to the 5th ave shops, Central Park, Times Square and the Empire State Building, all within walking distance. The hotel itself is clean, the rooms are small but efficient, the niose was not an issue, and the bathrooms very clean as well. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We arrived very early in the morning, and check in time is at 3p.m., as we went to check in the hotel accommodated us and gave us a room right away. Because we had a late flight when we were leaving New York, we asked the hotel for a late check out, and they said "no problem" and later they held our bags for the day so that we could tour around the city. The bottom line is that if your expecting the "Ritz", then book at the "Ritz". It's a Radisson people! This hotel is for those that don't spend a lot of time in their hotel room, want the perfect location, and are realistic about what a 3 star hotel offers. The price is right, and the location is unbeatable. I would go back to this hotel in a heartbeat and would recommend it to only those who have realistic expectations.

Not the greatest hotel

Stayed here March 22-March 25, 2003 (princeline). We arrived at check-in time and were told the room was not ready b/c hotel was overbooked. Left our bags with bellman--told hotel not responsible for loss or damages. That made us mad since it was their fault we had to leave our bags in the first place! The room was small, but that was expected. Bathroom was fairly clean but not as well as it should have been. We discovered that the room was never cleaned until 3 or later each day. The room was noisey at night, even though we were on the 8th floor. Hotel was "overbooked" so moving wasn't an option. The bed was comfortable and the location is great but I would not choose to stay here again.

Fabulous Location

from A TripAdvisor Member
Our room on the 24th floor was lovely. We had 2 bathrooms, a huge bed and the room itself was large and immaculate. Room service was good. Our only complaint would be that the front desk staff were not particularly helpful. The location is perfect for touring Manhatton- its close to 5th Avenue shops, the Chrysler Building, Empire State building, Central Park and Grand Central Station. If I went back to New York I'd stay here.

Terrible

from disheaka
My mother and I stayed here for Christmas and we were so disappointed with everything! Our rooms were not ready when we checked in, we had to wait for 4 hours.......the room was dirty looking and the carpet had lots of satins on it. The bathroom was freezing all the time and we had to keep calling for toilet paper and towels. It took them 2 days to remove our breakfast tray from outside our door. I would never stay in this hotel again, it really is a cheap deal and a hopeless hotel.

Lexington Radisson Crooks

This hotel routinely overbooks. We drove eight hours into NYC after reserving a room with credit card on the hotel website. We were told they had cancelled our reservations (though we showed them a copy of the reservation and email). It took us four hours for them to even try to get us another hotel (eventually we found a hotel that cost 60$ a night more). Interestingly, others who had their rooms cancelled appeared to also have made discount reservations. Management was almost uniformly rude, lied to us, and during the time we were at the front desk we found several other customers had the same problem. At 7 pm a number of shouting matches erupted because rooms still weren't cleaned and people weren't let into their rooms. Radisson customer service took days to answer our first complaint and gave us no satisfaction. We're currently taking the matter to the Better Business Bureau.

Don't bother with this hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
My wife and I just got back from our New York Trip. On the website, the hotel looks great, but we thought the hotel was awful.

I won't say much about the room size. Of course in New York the rooms are small, but this is THE smallest room I've experienced. I've been to NY four times previously. I could live with a small room, but:

1) The rooms were dirty - e.g. mold and mildew in the bathroom (there is no fan).

2) It took 10 minutes for hot water in the shower.

3) There was no cold water in the tap (it had a lever tap that is suppost to move slightly to the right or left, but this one you could just keep spinning it around and never get cold water)

4) There was no comforter on the bed - we had to call and complain for one.

5) The walls are thin and we could hear a child screaming from 5am onward (not really the hotel's fault)

6) The restaurant downstairs had a horrible "buffet breakfast" with only 6 items - eggs, bacon, pancakes, and potatoes, apples, and toast. It cost us US$35.00 and we had to ask three different waiters to get a glass of water. And the food was lousy.

7) The staff were not very friendly. E.g. instead of "welcome to the Radisson" you get a snarky "don't you know check-in is not until 3?"

We stayed 2 nights and then switched over to the Courtyard Marriott around the corner on 3rd and 52nd. It was fabulous in comparison, and comparably priced.

To put it mildly, this hotel is a disgrace and would be out of business were it not for its location.

Radisson Lexington disappointing

from A TripAdvisor Member
The Radisson Lexington looked really good in its description online and the photos provided on the Radisson website. It was a different story when we got there. The rooms were small and dirty. The carpets were stained and worn. Paint on the furniture was chipped. The bathroom was tiny. I didn't expect a room in New York city to be large, but these were more like closets. We didn't like the first room and asked for a different one, only to find the exact same situation. They could only offer us either a single double bed or two twins. We went for the double and suffered through three long, crowded nights. We won't be going back there.
