When I asked the mechanic how much for his time he said enjoy your trip. - when I knocked on random doors for water the lady offered me her fresh baked cookies and said I would be welcome to camp on her property.           We were up early-ish but got a later start than most in our hotel. Gates at the venue opened at 0600 and I was afraid everyone would be lined up to get in. So we waited. We left Charlottesville at 0900, arriving to our turn-off at 1000, but cops had it blocked. So we ended up going about 5 miles past the turn and back-tracking our way back to the line. ...

          Had a good couple of days. A couple of Cheryl's high school friends, who are married, Molly and David Woody, joined us at the campground for lunch. They stayed on into the evening. We were joined later by Sue, Cheryl's sister and her husband Denny along with Cheryl's mom. Weather was good, we sat outside having a few drinks and laughing and carrying on. Very nice visit.           Today, the drive between Monticello and Poplar Forest can be done in a little under two hours. In Jefferson's day it was a 3 to 4 day ride by carriage or horseback. We learned that he used Poplar Forest as an escape from Monticello. No one knew about Poplar Forest other than the folks he wished to know.
