... Lake Ontario, no ship traffic entered Upper Canada without passing under its guns.

Things we Observed:

· With all of the muskegs surrounding Kingston, we thought it cynical that Ducks Unlimited would designate a large insignificant low-lying area as a Wildlife Sanctuary in the middle of an industrial park – there’s no water in it!!!!! Seems like eco-geeks run ...

Gananoque, Ontario, Canada navnav... this morning.

In the afternoon when we stopped on E. Kirby Rd at local market to stock up. I think it was a ShurFine. If you folks are out there, correct us with a comment and we'll fix it. Emily was really tired and stayed laying on the grass outside the store while we went in. Apparently she just conked right out. They made us the most amazing sandwichs -- huge and yummy. The ...
Sackets Harbor, New York, United States bicycle_affair2... in the town. Oh! I can highly recommend the pizza and lite beer! I'm strictly Canadian for the next few days...and I actually had a Canadian lite beer. Speelman's. It was quite tasty!

I am going to try to add photos to this travel blog...but I forgot the cord to transfer photos to my computer! I'm now taking some photos with my phone and that seems to do the trick!
Kingston, Ontario, Canada laura3849... and clear views of the lake. We were seeking out the Penitentiary Prison, a tiny building giving the history of jails through the ages - sizes of cells, controlling methods and how the inmates made their weapons. Not quite Alcatraz but the kids enjoyed it.

After this riveting experience we decided it was time to eat and we joined one of Jo's friends Wendy at the local steak restaurant. We were filling ...
Kingston, Ontario, Canada prieststrip... tried waiting for the rain to stop. No dice. I went over to the "Lord Nelson Motel" just across the parking lot and booked a room. So gross. I can barely breathe in here. There is furniture lined with VELOUR and FOLDING chairs. Also, the smell is disgusting, I don't know what it smells like, but it's terrible. I had to ASK for a cup. I was so thirsty, I couldn't even drink ...
Kingston, Ontario, Canada starlagurl... for groceries to make dinner. Since it was obvious by this point that the planned pasta dinner wouldn't be until almost 9:00 pm. I asked for my share of the 'kitty' for the cost of dinner back and just got myself something quick from the grocery. Not ideal but I can't eat pasta so late. The hostel is in a beautiful location on the north of Skye with views out over the sea. I just went up to the room, showered and went to bed. I'm not very happy with the tour this evening.
Isle of Skye, United Kingdom jaeIn 72 hours we'll be on the plane (yuck) on our way to London. The last few months have just flown past. I am completely unprepared for this trip. The other things in my life have gotten in the way of planning for this trip. I've got a couple of days to try to get the last things together...we shall see what happens. The cheap tickets are purchased though, and the cheap rooms ...
Kingston, Ontario, Canada jaeIt wasn't exactly traveling to Russia but it was pretty good for an evening event! We heard about this Slavic Evening from the Russian organist colleague. The tickets of $20 per person included a room full of people with thick Slavic accents, traditional and popular music along with hand clapping, a silent auction of beautiful handmade items, and a buffet. The buffet had ...
Kingston, Ontario, Canada lolly... especially since I don't have a motorcycle to ride). AFTER leaving the campground I figured I should have used Mapquest to print a map of the area. It's not that I would get lost. I knew I'd eventually return to my starting point, but the distance travelled might exceed the distance I would have liked to have gone. And that's exactly what happened. Northeast....then North....West...then a road that should have returned me to the road I knew would get me to the campground ...
