We made it home safely. The -21 C temperature coming off the plane last night was a little bit of a shock to the system. We were delayed by the snow in Toronto but luckily the held our flight from Edmonton to Fort Mac for us. We look forward to seeing everyone again and sharing a few pictures with you. André & Gina
Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada vincethepinceAlright, so after spending most of the night watching the Broncos get blown out, I am pretty much done packing. Follow along with our trip as Gina and I head out to the long lost continent of Madagascar. I'll try to keep the blog up to date as best as I can based on internet availability. The cab comes at 4:30am...time for bed. André
Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada vincethepinceStill at work in Fort McMurray, just counting down the days. The days are already getting noticeably shorter. The days of 24 daylight are over. The mornings are getting crisper. Fall is definitely on it's way. I think Chase has lost his mind up at Diavik. We're ready for a vacation!!
Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada chaseandandriaAs we pack our bags, check our lists and get things in order it is only a week before we leave. This entry is to serve only as a test that this blog and the address book is working. We hope to be able to do some entries once we leave on our journey. Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada frostyrunnerFt. Mcmurray is about 4 hours north of edmonton. The only reason anyone is there is because there is about 5x the oil of saudi up there. There are really good steak houses and seafood, yes seafood this far from the ocean. Plan an evening if you need donuts, the line at tim horton's has been about a 30-60 min wait for 6 years at least now.
Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada chitown-hepcats... Also, banish the leech fear and the fear of swimming anywhere but a Canadian Ocean. - Start going on hikes more regularly to get used to the walking in different conditions, carrying a pack, altitude and other such things. - Continue our language studies. We're learning seven new languages - French, Arabic, Spanish, Janapese, Russian, Portuguese, and Mandarin. We spend a week working on each language and then move onto the next until we start all over again ...
Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada sarahjean... We had a minor incident with our car...it overheated on us and we had to stop on the side of the road and get help. Turns out that the line we saw on the side of the Radiator's overflow was not the level of coolant, but a stain. It was bone dry and so, understandably, we overheated. We've had a few minor set-backs with that but for the time being, the car is working ...
Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada jphaarsma... schedule on such short notice.
This weekend ofcourse, all that had been ironed out.
It became evident early in the day Thursday that we would not recieve the all clear to go back to work. We asked if we could leave early... No. So, for 10 hours we played cards, ate our lunches, paced, played more cards...wasted time.
Point taken.
This of course made for a very long day. Made longer because it was layoff day. Some of my ...
Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada findingnine... today. I slept through my alarm, or maybe turned it off in my sleep, who knows? Woke up later to the sound of someone walking past my room. As I was groggily coming to and becoming aware of the pain in my hands, Immediatly the theme from The Big Lebowski was going through my head. Still can't shake it. No Biggie. It's a good tune for a great Movie. May have to watch it again today. Good news is, apparently you can't have a hangover if you're still a little drunk.
Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada findingnine... but definitely not in a motel with one of the old boys from work. I know what you're thinking though. Pretty fancy place. You don't get extras like that just anywhere. Once all the beers were gone, I decided to hit the hay. There wasn't really anything else to do, and besides one can only cram so many golden memories into a single day. Good Thing I did. Seems at about 4:00 am, some ones truck starting outside woke up Dave. Naturally he lit a ...
