511 Bow Valley Trail Canmore, Canadian Rockies, Alberta, Canada, T1W 1N7, 403-678-3625
Looking for a "cool" get away from the summer heat- Alberta Canada just might be the best place to hit. My son the avid fisherman wanted to try his hand at fly fishing- so why not the very best- the Bow River just North of Calgary, AB. As for me, I like the views form the lakes (Emerald is my favorite) to the peaks of Sulfur mountain, killer (hike) views form 7500 ft. We did spend the last 2 day with an expert guilde, Chris, who escorted us down the Bow river seeking out every hot fishing hol...

... It's a personal blog, suck it up) I decided to actually look into getting one today. Yesterdays hike left me a little sore, and I knew I was up for a bigger challenge today. The pharmacy dept at Shoppers Drug Mart was very helpful. They helped me find the size I needed, were very patient with my try on process, and even showed me braces specific to my needs. Turns out when I tried to describe the injury, he know what I was talking about. Good ...
Canmore, Alberta, Canada findingnineOn Day 2, we drove south towards Athabasca Falls, then headed up a rocky, unpaved road to hike the Geraldine Lakes trail. We made it past the first lake and midway towards the second, finally turning around at a massive rockpile. Afterwards we went into Jasper for a dinner of Japanese food. Details in the photos!
Jasper, Alberta, Canada wonderer... townsite around midday, ate lunch in town, got groceries, checked in at the HI hostel, and then went for a short warm-up hike, Valley of the Five Lakes. Afterwards we went back to the hostel to roast hot dogs, but got rained out before I had time for any marshmallows. Gah. The main HI hostel in Jasper isn't the nicest. It has huge, 30-bed dorms, as well as a few "family" rooms that get booked up very early. One of the girls in ...
Jasper, Alberta, Canada wonderer... are full so we spent the Wednesday and Thursday nights in a B&B type place (but without the breakfast!). On the Wednesday we went to the summit of a local mountain - Whistlers mountain. This involved a cable car to 2270M and then a walk up to the top at 2470M. The views from the top were really good and we went a bit further by walking along the peak. We also met a Marmot (a squirrel like creature but ...
Jasper, Alberta, Canada alexndean... the skis using skins which attach to the bottom of the skis so you don't slide backwards when walking up hills. Using these, the process of getting up a hill is made achievable (I won't say easy because it's bloody hard work). Once on top of the hill, you just take the skins off and re-attach the bindings so that your skis become just like a pair of downhill skis and then the fun begins. Here's a piccie of my set-up: Why go to all the effort of ...
Canmore, Alberta, Canada tommy... we got to see the Mexico City streets almost completely empty. We got our early morning plane to San Fransisco where we were to spend the next 9 hours. I really wanted to go to the pier and see the Golden Gate Bridge and the Aquarium but the airport ****ed up our baggage and we ended up waiting for those for almost 2 hours then we had to check them in all the way at the other end of the airport. By the time we had any time left it was too late to go anywhere. I was pretty mad ...
