    Good Out of Town Hotel

I have stayed at a variety of hotels over the last 3 months. The Radisson and Park hotels (both the same chain) have always been of a high standard and suited my budget perfectly. The Radisson Blu Media City is about 10km from Dubai. Fortunately taxi fares in Dubai are quite reasonable but I guess that some of the money we have saved on the room has gone on taxi fares.

Anne has added most of what we did today in her comments so it is my turn to just tell it as how I saw it. Our day started at 8:00am with Mick and the boys telling me it was time to get up. After breakfast we took a limo ride (in a Lexus) to the "Palm Island" and the Dubai Mall. The driver was quite informative and it is interesting to know that …

We packed our cases in preparation for our flight to Dubai. We had to say farewell to our alcohol and soft drink as you are not allowed to carry liquids onto the plane. We took a taxi to the airport as it was simpler and quicker than getting the airport shuttle. We could not get our tax form for Anne's glass swans stamped by customs as you need to …

... remember in Dubai, I think is that everything you can think of is in Dubai or will be at some point. It's mad but fab and I thought I wouldn't like it! Dubai is an amazingly surreal place and worth a visit for the jaw-dropping buildings and almost apocalyptic atmosphere. I would like to go back and see the old town and stay overnight in the desert. We stayed another night in Dubai before an early flight to Sydney the following ...

... the freaky randoms who stopped in:) (Pretty sure you can't barter with a bar in a hotel you freak!!) We slept pretty soon after that and awoke to a new day in Dubai. We wandered the shops for a bit, Sarah buying a toy camel, who we named Dermot from Dubai! When we returned to our nest in the smokers lounge, we hung out for a bit, watched some news (riots in Istanbul huh?) and posted a few pics on Facebook. When we went ...

The Big Question: Where to go on holiday this year

... in a vehicle for hours and days at a time.....and so we went on.

We had a think. Where can we go that isn't too far from Dubai, that's not too expensive and the kids can play outside? Whilst looking at the map, a lush little island in the Indian Ocean caught my eye.

    Sri Lanka.

    Perfect. ...
