Here we go!!!!

Two days left - still can't really believe we're going. Excited and also a bit nervous - how will we get from place to place especially around Cambodia and China?

Working our way through our final to-do list and just hoping not to have any last minute panics!!

Suppose it won't sink in until we're on the plane:)

Viv xx

First night out camping

Camping in Barnes Green was good fun. We set out for the night to test the new tent, awning and cooking gear. It was very cold and we eneded up caught in a thunder storm, but I'm glad to report the tent was suberb. It was dry inside and our sleeping bags also did the job. We were nice and snug inside and we had a big fry up for breakfast, so all in all a success!

We got our carnet yesterday, so we're pretty much ready to go! Roll on December 24th!

A grand farewell

Well, what can we say! What a send off from the villagefolk at Lindfield. It was coincidentally Guy Fawkes night which is also a pretty big deal in England.
A grand parade of burning torches and witches led up to a bonfire and fireworks extrordinaire.
To top it off, a display of Morris dancing by the local chaps outside the White Lion. Wow, the locals really love us. Tomorrow we depart for Queensland.

Lewes bonfire mayhem

... the bottom of the high street it began to dawn on me just how inescapably and unashamedly anti-Catholic the whole event is. I obviously had an idea of what to expect before arriving, but it’s only when you see it up close and personal that the mind-boggling political incorrectness begins to hit home. Lewes bonfire night is a throw back; an anarchic anachronism. The whole country celebrates November 5th, but no other town can claim to be as bound to its roots as Lewes.

Huge ...

Brighton? More like Windyton..

... in. Did he think I would throw off Gotye when I entered the hall? Did he think I cared that there was probaly not long left anyway? The guy was a knob and if I ever see him again, I will attack him with a stick or something, from behind, in the dark (he was a big guy)! So I arrived in Brighton on Friday afternoon. The home of The Kooks. It was sunny, still and cool. I was digging it. I went for a walk to the pier, which is literally 2 minutes from my hostel ...

Life Across the Pond

... to London, though I am sure I'll always prefer Brighton to its excited streets and busy pace. Today I went on a wonderful adventure with my friend Chelsea to a place calld Falmer Village. Falmer is a quaint and old-fashioned village complete with flintstone cottages and an old church where the buildings and stone fences date back to the 17th century. It was only ten-minute walk from the University, and we left around 11 with the sun ...

Brighton

... on mugs from the gift shop, but was eventually convinced otherwise by the distance from our hostel and the weight of our packs. We fled, and it was late in the day after a pleasant train journey through the countryside when we finally made it to Killarney. Finding the tourist office in Killarney proved to be a lengthy task. Our guidebook stated that "The Tourist Office is large and helpful." but didn't really give us any orienting features beyond an address. When we finally found ...

Home, Sweet Home - SUMMARY

... Bali with our mates was a tremend holiday. Awesome times. Australia - Great road trip in SW oz, a highlight of our year. East coast was a bit pointless, rescued by us seeing Rick and Susie. NZ - We did the Kiwi experience, this made for a sublime time. If done independtently, it may have been a bit dull. Loads of pricey but excellent stuff to do, and with the big group it added to the excitement. Auckland was rubbish ...

The Glorious English Seaside at its Best

... was huddled up in coats. A whole new experience, but exactly what I was hoping for. Can't say I would be in a hurry to go back again, though. I think most of you know, but Mick and I are leaving the sunny shores of the Old Country, and will be back in Australia via France, Italy and Japan at the end of October. Only 6 more working days to go! Yipee! Can't wait to catch up with you all, see ya soon.
