... awakening had suggested, Kumai was only a short boat ride away. We disembarked, giving each crew member a decent tip, for which they seemed very happy. Zulham took us on a half hour car ride into Pangkalan Bun. This one actually had seat belts. They were spoiling us. On the way he pointed out his house in Kumai. His young daughter was sitting out on the porch. I can't remember what he said her name was but I remember him saying the literal translation is "little wave". ...

... there a difference between triangle and round hats you wear on paddy fields? The answer is preference,we think but we genuinely thought it was status related or at very least gender. What does ACE mean? Ersan and Giri had been saying 'ace' to each other and I finally asked the question what does it mean? Turns out its like when you find something funny like hah! ... that is full of spare parts through customs. The whole luggage for 4 person weights 102 kg. With two cars we go directly to the Indonesian embassy to collect our vehicles. It is a surprise to see that the battery still has enough energy to start the engine. Welcome back to our blue house. Ready to roll to explore the next route.

... train was called, and so ensued an idiot conversation with the guy in the ticket office as we tried to establish how to get to Yogyakarta. We ended up splashing out on first class tickets (which sounded ludicrously expensive at 360,000 rupiah apiece) on the Argo Lawu train the following evening.

... with children and didn't make the world heritage "must see" sights of South East Asia. I get some Minion shots even though it's two million degrees in there and the last thing I want is to draw attention to us with all the kids deseperately wanting their picture taken with strange white folk.
